But Aaron, do you have to call everyone on everything? Isn't it enough that in your head you realize you are right and the other person is wrong without constantly telling the other person they are wrong? What difference does it make to you if you let one or two arguements go by without any comments? Will it really make a difference, if one less person knows about the intricanies of the 407? I bet it won't. No one here ever even said that they weren't going to pay their bill if they use the highway. If the person that that mail was addressed to was debating than it would be different.

I'm just saying this because yes, you need friends that you can debate with on issues but sometimes you just have to let things go by. People aren't all of a sudden going to become all-knowing and pull out facts out of their ass just to talk to you. You may think you are helping misinformed people but mostly it doesn't really make a difference in their lives or yours, it just may get annoying and people become too defensive.

Hah - as if I call everyone on everything. If I did that there'd be 50 posts a day from me, and neither I nor anyone else has time to deal with that.

I only "call" the most flagrantly offensive or disrespectful comments. This year, there seem to be a lot of them compared to previous years. Maybe a lot of people agree with them and hence think they are no big deal, but 30 years ago it was no big deal to use the n-word and that still didn't make it right. Just because some people are used to dealing with flaming Liberals all their lives doesn't make it okay to constantly make statements bashing non-Liberal views. When they're talking to their Liberal friends, fine, they can say whatever they want, but people need to learn to be more tactful when speaking to a mixed group. And that's what this is all about - not helping people, not making a difference in people's lives, but teaching them some bloody TACT. And I happen to accomplish that quite well by taking them down a few pegs WITHOUT resorting to personal insults in 99% of all cases. You fault me for this? Go ahead and criticize, but I believe what I'm doing is right.

Just look at Jay's threads, Margs. However inflammatory they may be to some people, I don't see ANYONE on this board "letting it go" with him. There are ALWAYS at least 10 people on the forum who "call" Jay on it every time he makes a political comment. The only difference between Jay's threads and threads like these is that I am one of maybe 4 or 5 active members of the forum who aren't on the hard-Left side of the political spectrum. If we had more intellectual diversity, there'd be dozens more replies just like mine (except probably a lot more low-brow or below-the-belt replies, like we see in response to what Jay posts).

And Jay, if you're reading this, sorry to single you out here but I think it's a very good example of my point how the whole forum gangs up on you whenever you talk politics (even if you do talk about it a bit much ;)).

Jay who? there is a person named Jay on this forum?

yes, you do call everyone on everything, or at least that's what it seems like.

if we took a poll right now, people would say that you have something to say about everything and most of the time it's to tell them they are wrong in some way.

I could go through your entire post and put links to stuff you say where you are being hypocritical. Where in this thread was anyone offesive before you said something. (calling someone an idiot is not TACTFUL).

Jay is Jayx1. Christ.

I don't think you actually read anything I said. You just glanced at it and said "no you're wrong". My point was that people like Jay and I do the exact same thing as anyone else on this forum, except we just happen to be stronger debaters and get singled out because our views don't conform to the norm here on TA. Taking a poll doesn't mean anything because we all know that the majority of this forum (minus the dozens of people who don't post anymore because they couldn't stand it) is leftist, anti-American, anti-corporations. People freak out at whatever they disagree with, and nod their heads whenever it's something they agree with no matter how insulting it is.

In fact, I'd say that a large segment of TA (probably a large amount of Liberals in general) are incredibly intolerant of different beliefs, despite how often they preach things like "tolerance". That is why they think I'm "always picking on people".

And no, calling someone an idiot is not generally tactful which is why I almost never do it. Go ahead and find an example outside this thread within the past two weeks or so (I'd say longer but I honestly just can't remember back that far).

I still don't know who that is...

I read your post and I re-read it to laugh because you can't even admit that an arguement in this case wasn't warranted. For crying out loud, you are arguing with me now about something completely different than what my comment to you was. I don't care about your political views. Re-read the thread, it was supposed to be a joke. Even a joke has to turn serious for you maybe not serious but about something political or economical. Istead of adding your views on the stupid guy on TV, you had to respond to someone else's comments about God knows what, I don't even remember what the arguement started about.

Can you ever admit that sometimes, it's not worth to comment? I know everyone is at home bored out of their minds but seriously.

Ahem.....excuse me, but I'd like to interrupt this conversation and say that it's Christmas for many today, so....

It's time to be merry

So let's not argue

If I'm responsible for your anger, then I apologize........my intent was never to anger you....I only wanted to post an incident that I went through and to point out something I thought you may not have been aware of. I was not searching you out to argue political views. So if you feel I have, then please excuse me.

I only ask that you be kind enough to let it go now for the sake of the holiday season which many are still celebrating.

Re that cup of coffee...I thank you for the offer
Unfortunately I have much of my time booked up for the next few months, maybe when things ease up you can come by Osgoode Hall and we'll find that time

So cheer up doode, the New Years coming....time to make changes and new resolutions.

But that's the thing, for those that know him, he is not angry, that is just the way he is. And we all laugh it off.

Which by the way Aaron is not really good for you because your views do not get across because people have stopped taking them seriously.

Sorry Margs but you know as well as I do that jokes are easy to miss online. :p

I happen to be an outspoken person - I comment whether it's "worth it" or not. But I wasn't the one who turned it political, and if you don't believe that, re-read the thread yourself! It started with someone saying that the guy wasn't stupid because it was probably the 407's mistake because the 407 was ed up, I explained how the 407 is only following the regulations, and THEN it got political by them whining about how the 407 is another greedy corporation with price gouging and whatever else. Just because you started a thread with a particular topic doesn't mean that I have to post EXACTLY on topic if the conversation has veered off, as long as I'm not deliberately trying to hijack it.

Honestly... christ, I post way more non-serious comments on this forum than serious ones. I get tired of being singled out because I actually think things through and stand up for my beliefs; probably I should just stop posting period, that's what most of the other old members did. Run away and let the n00bs turn TOTA into a massive whine-fest.

Sometimes, I really am just joking around. The "angry" posts in particular are usually full of sarcasm and aren't meant to be taken seriously.

I think people take me seriously when I am being serious. But, maybe you have a point, I'll have to think about it.

And to b4k-oz: no, I wasn't angry, and yes, I am letting it go.

.

This is the great Liberal irony. The people who preach tolerence are usually the most intolerent to other points of view.

DigiNut..........I think it's great that you have such strong beliefs. And I would certainly hate to see you stop posting, when you are clearly very passionate about some issues.
However, sometimes you have to be considerate for others and for your own reputation.
Sometimes shooting from the mouth (or in this case typing your immediate rebuttal)should be thought out and planned out better...so that you come across as a person worthy of consideration.

Please don't think of this post as a condescention....it's just an observation that I think you are aware of, but your passion gets the better of you.
StereoPrincess
btw, aaron, i do respect your views, i just sometimes don't respect the way they come across to people. i don't care, i don't get offended but some people may especially if they don't know you as well.

that's why i have made up that new term "diginutted" because your posts come across condescending eventho they may be right or showing a good view of things. peeps aren't going to listen to that.

but, dood, never stop posting. you are TAs secret weapon, we wouldn't want you to join another board. :D
