I'd say the second one if they're the same price. People tend to over-estimate what they need.
Sure the first one has 1GB RAM. But so what. Are you really gonna use it all?
If you intend on playing/making music then the second one has sound. Plus you can always bung an extra chip in.
I'd like to know what make they are before i bought though. If laptop 1 was a compaq and laptop 2 an acer, i'd pick laptop 1.
The battery would last longer on 1 but that depends how much time u gonna be on battery for and what you're using it for. |

Ok thanks for the input.
They are both from Tiny.com
The Models are 1) Tiny PowerLite C825, 2) Tiny PowerLite G910.
I have a desktop, but it's had a hardware failure, but I do actually plan to get it fixed, but I also want a laptop to allow myself to become more mobile.
Are tiny a decent make or should I be more concerned about getting a better brand over the higher specs?
As to the lower RAM in the G910, I can always upgrade the RAM, but many other components in laptops are more difficult to upgrade.
I definately want to use for mixing and potentially producing too - that would be new for me. But also I want to use it for work and travelling, so it would be convenient for me to have a better than average battery life.
Just for info. they actually cost £999 each. |

laptop one is def a better computer, it will give you a much longer battery life without lighting your lap on fire like the prescott chip.
if you're seriously considering about doing some producing there are some really nice usb2 audiocards that you can use with the laptop.
as for the 4ghz p4 read and weep: http://theinquirer.net/?article=19465
search google if you want more proof. |

If intel shoots out with a pure 64bit system in the high ghz range (or even at near current speeds, but with a much highed on die cache and FSB) then they will burry AMD for a while. |
Actually Intels next 64-bit chip will basically be a clone of the AMD 64-bit Chip. Intel already tried going fully 64-bit with no 32-bit support (only emulation) which meant 32-bit apps ran slow.
I have a 3000+ 64-bit Athon it runs 32-bit fine, and I should see a speed boost when MS realeses 64-bit windows.
But dual cores will potentally give more of a speed boost then 32 vs 64 bit. |

don't expect a big difference in the way the operating system handles. it should be rather similiar. i think the only area where you'll be able to tell the performance increase is in games with a resolution higher then 1148x800 and in video editing applications.
i just reinstalled windows on my bro's athlon64 machine in less the 8 minutes =)
made me want a new computer so bad haha =( |

Ok, so they are both the same price and I want to know which is the better laptop and if they are good laptops. Don't worry too much about my budget for now and I am not planning to use for gaming, but mostly for my work and music. |
i go for the first one .. my current laptop has 1.3 mhz intel celeron processor and 256 mb ram with windows xp .. i didn't update my laptop with service pack 2 until recently like 3 weeks ago, and i am paying the price for buying a cheap processor now .. arggg .. :whip: :whip: ..
now with service pack 2, whenever i startup the net with my ultra-snail dialup modem, the computer excessivly pages to VM, and after everything is "said and done" (that means freezing my apps and windows start saying "not responding") .. ahahhahaha .. i get to about 170 MBs of RAM used .. that's after taking out every unnecessary process that i am running .. that sucks ..
think about what will happen to my computer when i have the net on with service pack 2 and winamp 5 open and playing at the same time .. that will really start paging .. hahahha ..
anyways back to the topic .. at least get a chip that can handle threads and processes better than a celeron .. i am going through computer organizational hell with the celeron .. hahaha ..
p.s. .. and here are the computer traceaddict nerds coming out and play .. hahahha .. thanks for keeping this alive guys .. and good convo with the 64-bit OS Nou , smokeape, and madhattered ... kudos to you .. |

i dont know anyone who has iso image disks .. hahaha .. the closest to linux that i can get to is "cygwin" (unix prompt on a windows platform. very good, but has it's little tweeks and thunks here and there..) .. got an image disk to share?? i cant download it, cause i am on dialup .. :whip: :whip: |

I'm quite surprised that this thread is still running and idiots proclaiming AMD will ever match Intel chips. BS.... Lol! Anyhow, your laptop seems to be sucking hard. One problem is Intel Celeron chips are not Intel P4 chips and don't have the capability, since they're at the cheap end of the market, but are equivalent to the best AMD chips. Your laptop sucks not because of chips, but because of the snail dialup. Go to Black Viper as a guide and turn off processes you don't need to be running in memory to bump a little more speed out of your pathetic system. 1.3 Mhz is gonna run f*cking slow no matter what you do.

... so true :D
And, yeah, I run linux; it's kinda nice to run applications remotely from uni (ssh + X forwarding). My only problem with linux right now, is, that the drivers for my ati radeon suck (bad performance & out of date). |

Are you about dumb or what?? Upgrade the drivers, but doubt if performance will bump as an end result anyhow, since you're too cheap to be running a decent system we can help you with.

duh! .. of course .. :p .. i know that my laptop will run slow on the net .. i was just saying that after my handshake with the msn's dial-up server is complete when i dial-up, it freezes .. not like before, when it opens the IE window quick .... i don't think it has to do with my connection speed ..
but once i get a solid job ..damn it .. i will get myself a intel xeon chip laptop damn it .. top of the line .. sleek and powerful .. but for now, i just need something that will not crash, and will suffice for the average progs .. and that is what the celeron is meant to do .. hahhaa ..
i will tell you this .. my pIII 533 old computer (which is still running powerfully suprisingly) with windows 2000 pro handles threads better than my celeron 1.3 ghz laptop .. how pathetic is that ?? |
