OK just been checking some specs on CD decks at a online DJ Store
Some CD decks have a "Jog" wheel on them and with that u can acheive the back spin as u can with vinyl

And that is ecxactly what i was thinking all along.

the problem with this quote is that you're quoting a biased person.
If you want to share a technical article, then share a technical article. But what I see from that quotation is nothing but a biased, non-objective view.
In the opinion of that writer the centerpiece of the DJ studio will always be the twin decks and mixer. I have a different view and can support it with many arguments.
[edit] Just read Wicked Neo's post about the wheel and stuff. That's what I was talking about. :D :D [/edit] |

Traktor is a great application, I love to use it when i cant get my decks out at home, its superb for working out what set u may like to spin at a later date, u can work out cue points, fade points the BPM of a track, all sorts of things and No it's not easy for some ppl to use, it takes practice as do a great many things.

Traktor definitely requires some learning even to figure out the basics. I dabbled in it for some time and looked at all its options. The reason I abandoned it was because, besides learning all the switches and buttons (and there are many), I found that some of its strength could only be exploited on a truly powerful machine. If you want to go back and correct something you did "on the fly," that too is a complicated procedure...
Traktor tries to model the EXACT PROCESS of using turntables. I must say I'm not a big fan of this approach. Personally I prefer "compilation" programs like MixMeister. There I have precise control over every aspect of my mix without too much trouble. |

I prefer vinyl. Yes you can use CD's too (blah blah blah), but for me it takes the fun out of it. The whole fun is using your fingers to adjust the record, etc.... also just kinda "used" to have two twelves in front of you at a party...
Eugene, not to dig up an old debate here, but i want to show you something, as to why it seems you get dragged into the flame wars...

The first thing I want to say that mixing CDs is NOT easier than mixing vinyl. I've mixed CD's in the past. So before you say something, think well.
Dream Girl, you saw this guy spin very badly, and he just happened to use CD's. In psychology we call this the fallacy of association. You say: "but as long as the dj is not using only cds (which is the case of the guy i saw on halloween) he couldnt even work the crowd," That is just STUPID!! There are many DJ's who ONLY use CD's, and they work the crowd like crazy!!!
|
Eugene, the whole issue there was with HOW you express your opinon. We all know you're strongly-opinionated, and thats fine, but you shouldn't post your opinions with inflamatory-remarks, or insults to others simply b/c you don't agree with them! For instance, the first thing you said was "...So before you say something, think well." Ur Dream Grl had stated her opinion about something and you attacked her intelligence right off the bat. Then, you quoted her and misunderstood what she wrote, calling her "stupid". First off, she didn't say the DJ couldn't work the crowd BECAUSE he was using CD's... she was telling the story of a guy she saw halloween who sucked, he was using CD's, AND he couldn't work the crowd.... I didn't see a "he was using CD's and therefore couldn't work the crowd".... But even if she had said that, no need to use the word "Stupid".
This is not a flame-post.... just tryin to show you maybe how you could avoid creating flame-wars. Just remember that a lot of other opinions do NOT concur with you, and that you are not "the authority" on everything. Everyone has a right to an opinion. Also don't forget that (for a lot of people on here), English is not the first language, so a lot of people have a hard time expressing themselves.
I appreciate your educated posts, just could do without some of the hostility and attacking other's intelligence. :toothless
Peace

| any dj using that could get the best of both worlds...i believe Nick Warren spins with cds and hes always off the hook. i think cd players are fine, but better if not the only source of music, vinyls are so cool! late/ |

I felt like I had to contribute to this again.
Eugene, Bro, I am sorry but you must be a sad person, 'cause from what I 've been reading, You think you are the only one that has the right opinion, Dude, chilax, respect other peoples opinions,
Dream Grl was asking for everyone's opinions, not your opinions about what she had to say on the subject, calm down, the world is not going to end and not everyone is always going to agree with you, read the whole thread again, there was a lot of different opinions in here, you just post it and go on with you life, thats what everyone else did, but you just like pressing the same button on and on and on until everyone agrees with you and thats when flames starts,as I remember, you WERE the reason a flame was started in here.
Also you keep bringing up the deal that dream grl thinks that all djs should only use VINYLS... you havent been reading this thread, she never mentioned anything like that , look back at all her posts and you will see what I am talking about, she even mentioned that she sees oakenfold for his music and not for his capability to scratch or backspin, she is just trying to differ which is better.
Again , you are the only one in here who made a big deal on the question different than everyone else, it sounds to me that it must be something personal or something, if it is , I dont care, thats fine, but that is your problem no need to call anyone stupid, maybe you didnt understand the question.
And to put the end on this, Dude you dont have to reply to everyones posts, give people a break, you are not mister perfect if you were god you would be on the top like big djs, just because you use cds and enjoy them, doesnt mean everyone has to follow your steps, you know what you are acting like? you know those kids who come up to you in college and ask you if you believe in GOD or JESUS? if you say no, they will follow you around the school until they agree with you. dawm it is so annoying and unappropiate.
I know I am going to get a response from you on this because that is just the type of person you are (you will fight until for the last word), so i guess i will be waiting, but I still think you should leave people alone.
Again this is a nice thread and you are totally ruining it. |

Dude, I'm very sad that you completely misunderstand me and much of what has been posted. Imagine for a moment there's something you really like and are good at and have experience in and all of a sudden you see this arrogant comment:
it makes the work easier, so in 5 years we are gonna have millions of people who think they can spin using these cheap equipments that are easier and to me the music is going to die, because we are not going to have anymore Mauro picotto.. or Marco V... or...Johan Gielen..or PVD out there anymore...
Are you going to be upset when people diss what you know and like to do, in this arrogant way, without knowing anything about it? About flames, it was NOT ME who started them, it was Yellowbee, re-read the thread! About "having the last word" no it's not the kind of person I am, I just want to prevent any misunderstandings about what I said!! And that's all I'm gonna say on this subject! Again, I'm VERY sad that you don't understand me... |

Eugene, Dude Im sorry if I sounded arrogant to you.. but YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO TOOK IT THE WRONG WAY.. and you can think whatever you want,, I have respected your opinions so far, but you are calling my words., ARROGANTS and stupid.. ??? TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR WORDS!!!
THAT WAS MY OPINION,, get it trough your head,"JESUS CHRISTTTTT" AND IM NOT GONNA CHANGE IT.. i still believe that, and will always believe that the use of cds are EASIER..and in 5 years from now we will not have anymore mauro picottos,, or marco v.. or gielens .. now what the hell is wrong with that???
i DONT agree with half of the things you say, but I donrt let it ruin my day... DUDE people have different opinions, learn to accept that...
I asked about everyones opinion... have i called them stupid or arrogant because i didnt agreee with them?? NOPE...
I think you just see things different than everyone else..'cause no one else is blabing about what i said, they either agree with me or left their opinions "IN A NICE MANNER"...
another thing u said.. that i dont know about anything about the subject,,,, OK DID I EVER SAY I WAS AN EXPERT AT THE SUBJECT?? as i recall.. i even mentioned in one of my posts that i wanted u guys to correct me if i was wrong because i wasnt an expert.. WHY DO YOU THINK I OPENED THIS THREAD???????FOR GODS FREAKING SAKE...!!! JESUSSSSSSSS!!!!! I dont know everything about it ,why do you think i asked people.. but for you to have the guts to just come in here and say that i dont know anything.. THATS BULL!!! u need to get a life, Dont f%$%^^NG judge my knowledge when you DONT KNWO ANYTHING ABOUT ME.. OR WHO I AM.. OR WHAT I DO.
AND TO MAKE IT CLEAR ...IM NOT HERE TO COMPETE WITH ANYONES KNOWLEDGE... I am here to share my opinions and read other peoples opinions.. now get it straight...
Thanks,
xoxo Ur Dream Grl |

I prefer vinyls, me and my friends use CDs but thats because we don't plan in becoming big Djs,we use it in private parties, but thats because people dont go to parties for the music, they go to parties to get drunk and high, they are not there to stare at the dj doing his job, they could care less about what the dj is doing as long as there music, not to mention half of the people who frequent parties dont knwo about trance or dont know about a Dj, they dont even know that a dj uses vinyls, they just want music.
but in my opinion if you are planning to be the next PVD, you better use vinyls, or I will never go to your concerts LOL ( Learning from personal experiences), and who in the world doesnt want to see a Dj with hands on the vinyl??? hahaha Eugene i dont know what kinda djs you see, but seeing what you said made me laugh so hard Bro.
i think you are taking it too seriously because you use CDs, I should take it more seriously than you, but I dont because dream Grls brought up good facts by saying that the music will die, eventually.
Ask any producer or any manager or label company, they will all say the same thing "Cds are becoming easier to use, but it wont ever take over vinyls"

I still think that the idea of not being able to get stuff on vinyl before full release is crap :) If you try hard enough, you can :)
Hooj promo service, release records, 3beat, htfr.co.uk, Ebay, Balance Promo service...many, many ways.
But I can understand that for a lot of people, CD's are the easiest way out - Where I live though, you'd never get a gig using JUST CD's, plus it'd be illegal :( |

just wanted to add to the "you can't backspin or scratch with CDs" debate:
(BTW, I've had people telling me you can't PITCH with a CD player)
quote from Pioneer:
"Have you ever heard the powering down of a
vinyl turntable or a DJ doing a backspin with
their vinyl? Well, Pioneer has now made that
possible digitally with the CDJ-1000."
for more info, go here:
http://www.pioneerprodj.com/product...dj1000-intro.mv
This thing is SWEET!!! But I would only want it as an ADDITION to my decks.... |
