Also, most songs are first released over the internet and then the vinyl comes out. |
WHAT?
How do you think are those rips made??? From vinyl, of course!
btw I can't think of anything you can do with a turntable and cannot do with a good CD player. Maybe see where the breaks are (on the vinyl), but now with the CDJ 1000 that is possible, too. |

Exactly! And with anything technical, the price will come down with time, so I can't wait to see how many people who are "die hard vinyl lovers" start changing their tune about cd when the cost for a cdj1000 is half as much. |

hey
i only read teh first few pages so i may be way out but i think i pretty much agree spot on with what dj dawn is saying there has to a balance struck and i agree its abit give and take...
im a bit nostalgic and like vinyl alot but from the practical viewpoint i cant see anything wrong with cds but i can totally understand where both sides are coming from i think a intresting point with vinyl is that it is because the tracks are so hard to obtain that many top DJ's are also very good producers and have there own little acetates or private vinyls of half-finished or experimintal tracks which adds to thier own distinctive sound as a DJ i mean hey self advertising has to work some way :)
at the end of the day i guess they are very practical but i dont thinks ome of the "feel" is lost if you were to spin all cds but if you were to incoporate a few hard-to-find tracks for sure im all for it... |

First of all great topic choice, second of all i too agree wiv most eugene's comments. This topic is a big thing for me at the moment cuz im gettin cd decks as i like many other people just dont have the money to continually buy vinyl. Yes i have decks and i even get promo vinyl but i have so many mp3's that are difficult and/or expensive to get on vinyl. So for me its bout gettin the balance like a few have said. Yes vinyl is how every1 perceives djing but there is nothing wrong wiv spinnin cd's as the decks are now equivalent to TT's. I think both mediums are fine to use and that people who think djing wiv cd's is not acceptable should remove their heads from their own arses :D
As for the vinyl sounding better than cd's comment, im sorry but i dont totally agree wiv that. I can see where the arguements coming from but vinyls, crackle and pop every now and then from the static and dust which surely makes cd overall beta quality. Although i do agree without the cracks n vinyl has a little more life than cd's.
Peace :D |

But, we quickly realized that the reason was an ignorant way of thinking of things, and it really wasn't an advantage at all because we'd be spinning music because we loved it and not so some dumbass thinks we're 'cool'. |
Ok how old are you and your friends? I dont find that discussion funny at all, and I dont find that people who have DIFFERENT OPINIONS are having an ingnorant view on the subject, and also i dont think they are dumb asses because of what they think.
You know people here just want everyone else to think the same way they do, It hurts to see these immature comments about someone else when you don't even know the other person. Just chill
DjDawn, I checked that cdj1000, cool stuff do you own one of those by any chance?? |

hahaha, when I was the only one in this thread giving you the arguments IN FAVOR OF cd players, you all started dissing me and felt cool about doing it because there were so many of you, arguing that I was "too opinionated" and "aggressive" (nothing could be further from the truth BTW).
Now that some more people are starting to support me, suddenly "you don't find this discussion funny at all." Well, you know what, pal? I do! :stongue: :stongue: :stongue: <-- THERE! |

NO....as someone else said, these are over 1000 US $ each. If I had the money, I'd get one. But they will become cheaper. Right now I use Traktor as my third Turntable (hooked to the mixer).
Used to have a Denon with pitch 6 years ago, but it broke:(
And GUYS, please don't start messing this thread up again!!! |

I'm sorry, I can see that you missed the point of that post. I'm 26, and I wouldn't dream of implying that people can't have their own opinion. That would be childish and immature. What I was trying to say is that when I ask somebody "Why do you like spinning vinyl over cd? What are the advangtages that the vinyl medium gives you over the CD medium?" then the only thing they can answer is "umm... vinyl is cooler!" then that is ignorant. What that says to me is that they don't spin music because they love it, they spin it for the image and because some group of people that they care about think they are cool. I spin trance because I love it with a passion. I can't get enough of it, I listen to it night and day, and whatever medium can squeeze an extra drop of creativity out of me, I'll give it a try and I won't knock others that prefer their methods. But to this day, no one has been able to give me a reason why vinyl is better other than "vinyl is cooler!" which is a pretty dumb answer if you ask me. |

Well I think as someone else said it best, if you are using cds you can have the advantage of tunes like rank 1- too many miles, too soon
and marco v's indicator. There are also many good tunes like these that were never released on vinyl. |

Ok.. I've been thinking so much about it lately...
I dont know if it is just me but I dont understand why DJs are starting to use more CD equipments then regular vinyl turntables on live sets...
I 've also noticed a lot more mistakes coming from using the CDs...
so i wanted to know how do they do it...
because i just saw this guy trying to spin on halloween./. and he was horrible... when he was trying to mix the other song into the song he was playing it sounded like he just switched cds... I could spin better than he could.. then again he isnt anyone famous.. but still.. what do you guys think about it.. and which is better for yall??
