Vinyls vs. CDs (pg. 5)

I recently bought two cdj-1000's and I'd have to say that they are quickly becoming my preferred equipment to spin with. I have two 1200's in addition to the cdj's, but I find myself using them less and less as I start getting more songs on cd.
I don't care what anyone says, using cd players takes just as much talent as vinyl, and is equally as tough (maybe tougher!) to use. With CD players, sure you can't touch the vinyl, whatever, the cdj-1000's are so close to turntables, the only difference is the platter doesn't physically spin.
And, there are so many advantages to CDJ-1000's over technics 1200's.. The needle won't skip, cd's are easier to transport, you can display tracknames and the name of the mix on the cdj-1000, you can see a graph of the song showing you where the buildups and the breakdowns are, you can change the TEMPO of the song not only the pitch, so you can make a song faster without making the vocals sound like a chipmunk, or like when you slow them down! You can loop songs, which is so much fun to get creative with, you can jump back and forth between queue points, so you can get even more creative..
And, the CDJ-1000 has a really cool feature that other cd players don't have.. let me explain. Normally with cd players, in order to start off the song, you'd press the cue button to get it to your cue point, and then you'd press play to start it. With the CDJ-1000, you can put pressure on the platter and press play which will now simulate you having your finger on the record and the platter spinning underneath the record with the record stopped. So, when you move the platter back and forth, you can hear the beat under the "needle". So, now, you can "push off" the record just like you would with vinyl, and when you lift your finger from the platter, the cd will start playing.. a perfect simulation of "pushing off" with vinyl.. I love that.
And, you can change the speed at which the vinyl starts and stops when you press the platter. How much fun is that??? |

| you know? the easy thing to do with all this(I only read pages 1 and 2) EVERYBODY can DJ if they get the Final scratch. U use a computer as a source for your music, but spin it on turntables with special vinyl. then u can backspin, scratch do everything u like. Vinyl is way better, no matter what the size of the party, it is just so much more versatile |

Ok.. I did that.. what was the big deal??it felt weird and it sucked cause it is too small for the hand...and it cost and absurd amount of money.. hehe not tryin to say anything but like i've been mentioning they can make whatever they want but to me no technology will take over the greatness of a vinyl.. nothing can beat that..

TRAKTOR!!!!!!!! ;) lol
j/k, i think vinyl rules.
with the technology these days, there isn't really much of a difference, its just a "mental thing"
but if i was at a party, and the dj had a wicked new unreleased track on cd, and a vinyl that i've heard before, i'd rather he/she play the cd... whatever makes the party/music better is all that matters to me (assuming the mixing is similar in either case)
ps. good topic dream girl |

And the average person's ears won't be able to tell the difference. |

| Well first of all on the topic, I totally agree with Eugene's opinion on the whole situation. Second of all even though there are small disadvantages by spinning cds, there are many many many more advantages that come with them. And someone said that you cannot scratch or backspin on cds, that means they dont know their cd turntables very well. The turntables I play on have 95 percent of all the features that regular turntables have. Also, most songs are first released over the internet and then the vinyl comes out. Whats the interest in that? I rather catch the crowd offguard by playing something that they have never heard of. |

What are the 5% of features that cd players don't have? Just curious, my friends and I were trying to come up with an advantage vinyl has over cd, and we couldn't come up with one.
The closest we came to was "The average person thinks vinyl is 'cooler' than cd's." But, we quickly realized that the reason was an ignorant way of thinking of things, and it really wasn't an advantage at all because we'd be spinning music because we loved it and not so some dumbass thinks we're 'cool'. |
