I find that many musicians who play styles of music that are commonly not considered cheesy, in fact do sound the same, and recycle themselves very often. Many "non cheesy" artists are just copying stuff from the 70's and 80's, I don't understand how this isn't cheesy while recycling the epic elements is.

I guess the esiest example of this I could use is sasha and digweed. No, I'm not calling S&D cheese, but you would have to be living under a rock to no realize that every time they change their sound half of the world emulates it. When S&D moved to dirty dark prog a few months later it dominated dance floors, when they moved to the electro rockish proggish mix up they are on now I could pick out a great many mixes that used tracks that they played. I think being yet another DJ who copies sasha and digweed is cheesy, but not many other people seem to agree because they are blinded by all the "monumental contributions" they have made to the scene.

And I'm still hearing the the same kind of sounds from Tony De Vit - Global Underground #1, yet miraculously it is still not cheesy, how!?

:conf: I wouldn't call Dave Seaman & Chris Fortier cheezy. Even if they have the same style as Digweed. Maby you could call Markus a bit cheezy, because he plays a lot of the same stuff as Sasha, but isn't quite as good, and plays more "fluff" vocals then Sasha.

but then again, no one can really mimmic sasha or digweed, so that is probably a bad example :D .

Weather or not u like him, i think Tiesto is a prime dj, that tons of people copy.

I think an anthem track requires a certain kind of melody in it. Its kinda hard to describe, but you can almost sense how a track attempts to make itself memorable.

I would call forbidden fruit an anthem because I think it has that same memorable feeling in it, and because it is on many compilation that have the word 'anthem' in it.

is the original actually on any compilations?

I own that- it wakes me up every morning on my alarm clock. Still a pretty decent compilation, although the number and length of tracks is a bit dodgy.

He's arguing with Dave's strange idea that cheese is formulaeic music, which is a weird definition to say the least.

I can guarentee though that I've got wider and more developed music tastes than you, and also that I'm a hell of a lot smarter than you.

well it is and it isn't. Lets say Auora - Ordinary world used duran durans melody in their track, and Alpha Breed - Epic future used the same melody within months of each other, id call Epic future cheezy(i think epic future came out second).

Just becuase its a known melody that previousely worked, and all he did was remove the vox, and change the bassline... Aka it was just done cheeply...

Okay; any track that is centred around a single main melody, and is focussed on the introduction and use of that melody is an anthem. It can have other melodies, but they are secondary to the primary aim of the track: to make use of the "anthem". Which Forbidden Fruit does.

"Melodic" just means the track makes use of melodies extensively.

Well, TBH I don't bother buying more than one CD with the same songs on it, so I am not sure.

But I do remember hearing the Dave Pierce play tune on the 'Dance Anthems' show on radio1, and I also remember seing the video of it on MTV.

Not that I have anything against to song, but I think those things are enough evidence to show that it is indeed an anthem.

yikes kids, chill with the quoting me for a sec

the last time i checked thats what progressive trance is?

you know it starts simple, and progresses to a final stage... but all based on the same sounds?

You probably dropped out of education when you were younger than me, or else you wanked away a few years taking a faggot degree. Either way you've obviously got no real education inside you, else you'd have learned some proper debating skills along the line. I suppose there's no need when you're working towards paying off a mortgage in a dead end job every day, huh?

EXCUSE ME

But doesn't anthem mean something popular within its genre.???

A song can be structure around a main melody but if it sucks it aint no anthem.
