Your point was that Ferry is not called trance cos of his experiments. I've never heard anyone associate him with any other genre than trance, even after RYBR and Punk.

Dance music is not at a low level of popularity, in fact it's popularity currently is actually pretty high. |
If dance music is so popular, how come so many former edm clubs have either shut down or converted to hiphop/rnb? How come we have no new acts like Underworld or Orbital rocking indie festivals? How come so many promoters express their hard time of coping with rnb/hip hop on the clubscene (which includes those who have actually tried new things as time went by)?
And even if trance isn't popular right now as you claim it to be, that still doesn't change the fact that going for the same old formula is a lot safer and has a much better chance of results than actually going somewhere new, which ultimately leads to stagnation and less will to be creative. |

i cant argue about europe, but in the US the government servearly hurts dance music. We can't even have an event outside in NYC later then 10 pm. For a while we were not even allowed to dance in clubs. Meanwhile billions of lies are told to the public about just about everything. "Free speach" is just another means of control. Its to bad that most Americans do not realize this. |

thats my point. new artists see edm as a "cash crop" that they could just throw on their computer and make some money. IMO most older producers still put emotion & creativity into their tracks. Or atleast more then the newer producers.
And that is the problem with productions as a whole, not just trance. Its no suprise to me that djs like paul & marco v, and even tiesto have changed their style over the past few years. Paul is strait up electro hard trance at the moment. Armin hasn't gotten the point. |

I didn't say he isn't called trance- he isn't called epic trance, which is what we're arguing about, no?

Strange that I keep seeing new club nights and clubs opening every month in the dance press then. Strange how there is a constant flow of house records into the chart at the moment. And have you ever heard of Mylo?

So? Is epic trance solely to blame for that? Is it the only genre that is doing that? By that logic, all genres of trance are guilty of that because they haven't evolved for years. |

"Trance" obviously means epic trance in this case, since that's what people usually refer to when talking about it on here. Don't be a nitpick.

Is Call On Me and Lola's Theme your idea of a "constant flow of house records into the chart"? And a bunch of new club nights and clubs opening every month does not help if they play for half-filled (or less) venues for 2 months before closing their doors.

And have you ever heard of Mylo?
|
Has Mylo played Pinkpop in Amsterdam to 30.000 people? Has Mylo sent Glastonbury's indie crowd into a frenzy?

Whether it's the only genre doing it or not is irrelevant. The point is that that's what's been happening ever since producers realized the instant impact of the epic trance formula. |

There hasn't been a week since June 2004 that hasn't had a house record in the Top 40. Not to mention recent and upcoming albums from Daft Punk, the Chems, Moby, The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Faithless etc. etc. And you're assuming that all these venues are unsuccessful, despite them reporting big attendances and growing popularity.
I've no idea what events Mylo has played since his live act has only been around for a few months, but he's played countless live gigs to date and I would be surprised if he didn't make it onto a few festival line-ups this year.
You're being unfair on epic trance, and assuming the lack of innovation is because artists are just in it for the money. So why are there no revolutions happening to prog, or hard trance, or any of the other trance related genres?
Turning back to house, the genre has led to massive financial success for years now, and yet the scene is still changing, innovating and growing, particularly with the current emphasis on guitar and rock elements. By your line of reasoning, house should have stagnated because it's easy to make money from it (which is true). And yet trance continues to drop in popularity despite the "money making" epic trance formula.
You can't blame the lack of innovation in trance on the use of big breakdowns and super-saws. If anything, I'd blame it on the massive rise in use of software to make music as opposed to hardware. |

did he ever say it was just epic trance? its edm as a whole. Once someone realizes that there is money to be made in edm, more people will come for the same reason.
if you want an example look @ tiesto. Even Disney has him playing for them. i hear its something like 100 bucks a ticket? |

The argument concerns epic trance. The subject is the claim that epic trance is detrimental to the genre. We're focusing on one genre here. |
