Of course it's condescending, but it's not very far from the truth.

the problem isn't the fact that people listen to all these new tracks comming out. Its the fact that when one does come out, all of the newer people think its the best track since the beggining of time, and feel like expressing them selves in stupid ways.

for example, OMFG i just heard this on the radio OMFG CHoooon!11111 10000000000000000/10 its the best track ever.

especially in new cd reviews/releases...

next some other kid that can not read 4 lines down says the same exact thing.

its been a while since ive seen a lot of these new sets from armin, darey, ronski, a & b...etc in the tracklist forum with any good productions at all. Its the same old bland stuff that everyone plays...

I think you misunderstood me. Let me explain myself

All music can be catorgized, as Ishkur has shown us. Dutch Epic Trance is one specific category within Trance.

Now I focued my attention on Dutch Epic Trance because its a popular form of music on this forum ( i.e. ASOT, Tiesto,Ferry, etc) NOT THE ENTIRE GENRE OF TRANCE.

What is the differnce between Dutch Epic trance and TRANCE? Please read Ishkur's explanition.

Remeber my focus is on Dutch Epic Trance. OK.

Dutch Epic trance has an appeal to those who are new and unkowning to its structure and history ( not new or unknowing of dance music or the broad Trance genre) because ,in accord with Ishkur, those new listening to Dutch Epic Trance think its moving forward or 'new'.

however, the truth is that its recylced.

and besides surely im missing something but should there not be at least a hint of irony when you suggest that 'recycling' is somehow bad.

Recycling a sound over -and -over is the classic example of what it means to be cheesey.

An artist can get by unnoticed 'copying' a sound but not an entire genre, like what Dutch Trance did.

I am not trying to be condescending but rather explain myself. If you disagree with me than prove me wrong with proof.

How clever. A man and his opinion killed the most popular genre of EDM, a dutch superstar trance fag didn't. That makes sense.

there's no 'proof' or 'wrong' - at least not from the perspective i've got. music is art, and we're discussing its appreciation. proofs are three doors down in the science lab, thanks.

your idea: those who like trance say trance is evolving and maturing as a genre, but i cant see it. therefore, they must be stupid or naive, since it couldn't possibly be that there is change going on that i am unable to appreciate or pick up on.

my idea: once you lose the 'love' for a genre, you lose the ability to see music from that genre from the same perspective as one who actively and presently enjoys it. all rap since public enemy and vanilla ice sounds the same to the average 40-year old - not because they're stupid, but because they are unwilling and/or unable to have an intimate grasp of the sonic, tonal and rhythmic relationships and themes. this includes those 40-year olds that used to listen to their public enemy albums every day in the 80s (when they *did* have that grasp).

which is not to say that watching the progtrolls tut-tut the ferry-fanboys will ever get tiring. :D

Many interesting and well written posts here, aside from the troll that jumps in now and then. One of the few threads that I actually feel smarter after reading.

Ishkurs Guide offended me slightly at first, but I got over it and I do see the correctness of many things he's writing. An articulate smartass, much like our Ory ;)

This one made me laugh out loud:

No, much credit to you for not fighting fire with fire. If you had, this thread would have ended up in just another flamewar.

Ferry is a good DJ, really talented, he didn't kill trance but he certainly changed it... for the better??? I dunno, that's what we should discuss
