what does not evolve, dies (by definition)
plus i don't think you can say a music genre "died" since anyone who still likes it and thinks it has something to give, can listen to it - and create something similar to it (but by creating will have to make something new.. and make the genre evolve... otherwise can't be called "creation").
ah well it's quite funny, too see many people say "ay! we heard this kind of tracks dozens of times... make something new!", and those are often the same who say "pff... see what trance became.. it's not like in the past anymore.. changed to much". Not offending anyone, just noticing the little contradiction.
of course ferry created something new, fresh, that people liked (and still do)... he added some emotion, along with energy - and what would you love music for if it's not for emotion and energy.. he didn't force anyone to like his music style; and he didn't force any producer to follow him in his genre (melodic trance). |

that was a fun movie, sure it was almost the rave version of "Hackers" but it still reflected what some people's experiences might have been like.
I think that ferry's sound and the stuff that emulated it has its own kind of charm to it, but at the same time I can understand why other kids say the things that they say about it.
I will never really know what this wonderful scene was like before napster, but I imagine that it was very different before the massive surge in popularity and the giant cash-in fest that many of us saw as the golden era of trance music.
Things just happen differently to different people, and its good to understand people who have different opinions.
Call it whatever you want, argue for whatever cause you believe in, the only thing that really matters in the end is that we can all meet at any given party and create an almost magical experience togher dancing and having fun, no matter where we come from, what sounds we prefer, or how we see what is happening.
seriously, if I ever meet any of you kids at a party in RL, no matter what we may have said to each other on here, I will be nice, we will have fun, maybe even get a little ed up and do some dancing. Life is too short to be arguing like this, how about we go have some fun instead? |

Explain to me where and/or how the guide is a joke. I can see the Ferry Corsten comment as something to upset a few TA's but everything else is pretty accurate.
Prove me wrong. Seriosuly. Show me where the guide is wrong. |

I did ( the disclamer is on his website too). He bascially said either you accept his definitions or you can off.He never said the entire thing was a joke, just his understanding of music.
I think some of you are just pissed off at him because he poked holes at the bull dutch trance that alot of people here love.
Please show me how his definition of dutch trance is wrong. Or his definition of prog. Or his defintion of German TEchno. Or his definition of House ( classic) . Or his defintion of funky house. Or Stupid house. Or Synth Pop.
He is 100% correct in describing the genre and giving correct musical samples.
Prove me wrong by showing me where his definitions of the genre's are astray. |

What's wrong with Dutch trance anyway?
I like my country's trance, besides XTC and tulips one of our major exportproducts. That bullting on Dutch trance, it must be one of the reasons you came to TRANCEaddict in the first place, right? |

Well, I became a TA because of German trance, but that's another topic.
Really, I don't mind an overzealous breakdown once or twice a night. However, there was a point during the Rank 1 copycat phase at the turn of the century where I'd go to a party and have breakdown after breakdown after breakdown after breakdown after... you get the idea. It just completely kills the flow of the night. If I wanted to just stand around listening to melodies, I'd rather go to a chill room and at least get comfy on a couch or cuddle puddle.
However, I don't really blame the producers (like the Corstens and whatnot) for this. After all, they just make the music. It's the bad DJs that play this stuff continously without any idea of good dancefloor flow that are to blame. |

Read Ishkur definition of it. those are my thoughts exactly. He even gives you nice samples of songs.

Maybe. but I now realize how stupid I was in actually listening to it. It takes awhile for people to understand the music and appericate its merits. After some time dutch trance became 'cheesy' to me. Kinda like the feeling I have towards Euro-Dance. When I first started listening to Euro Dance I also thought it was good but I soon know realize I was soo wrong. I might listen to a few tunes from the genres but it's no longer my taste.
Ishkur is 100% correct. |
