I used to get annoyed at criticism by older TAs, but then i started to see their point, and i found myself agreeing with a lot of the points they have raised.
There is still quality trance out there, but you might have to search a little harder.
I have started to listen to older trance from the likes of Oliver Lieb, Humate, Paul Van Dyk, Union Jack, Art of Trance etc and it has blown my mind. ing awesome stuff. I suggest that you listen to as much music as possible. Try to broaden your horizons and test out artists that you normally wouldn't listen to. You might surprise yourself :wtf:
I'm not saying that you should listen to those artists, but just try and think outside the square and explore other avenues of music too!
Happy listening :D |

No, and thanks for reminder, for 76th time :clown: , ASOT is a radio show, and since Armin runs it he gets a lot of stuff handed out or sent to, new music etc., he might not like all of it personally, but that doesn't mean it's good music, now does it? So he plays it.
And it gives exposure to whatever producer's song he's playing.
If he didn't do this, then he could just play same songs every week.
By playing these songs he can also filter the tunes he includes in his livesets by judging people's responses. |

whats the point of having a personal radioshow when you aren't allowed to play what you like?
But again, I think Armin is bullting. Since most of the tunes played on ASOT ends up being played by him in his livesets. |

Didn't you read my previous post ?
He plays the tracks and then decides what's good and what not.
And by all means do not all of them end up in his sets. |

ASOt is best place to hear amazin new underground trance artists.
Without ASot were would the trance community be?? We would have never discoverd artists like:
Mike foyle
En Mass
the list of amazin producers is endless.
Thank you Armins for opening my ears to TRANCE. Its amazing all the emotions and sounds ASot has.
BTW
The ASOT record label is even better than the radio show. They only sign the best artists.
I luv you Armins !!! |

Dude...Armin is an amazing DJ (techincally, I mean), but you cannot say that because of him, there's trance and a trance community like TA. It's ridiculous to say that and I can only say you have no idea about EDM if you think that's the case.
Having said that, I believe most people are annoyed by Armin because he only plays stuff that he signs. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I find that in all his sets on ASOT and live, he plays basically all Armada and all the other labels he belongs to.
Just look at the new Armin CD vs the new Markus CD...There's plenty of tracks that are played by both just because they're trying to promote their label, which I find truly sad. Being a real DJ means you have to explore a bit more than what's just being given to you by your label. It has to be about looking into forums like these where there's a lot of amateur producers and finding tracks that you wouldn't have otherwise.
I know some will say, "that's what he did with Mike Foyle" which is true. But come on...most of us who do some visiting over at the amateur producers forum every once in a while, know that that track has been there for months now. Hell (and I'm sorry if you're pissed at this Mike), I've had this tune for months now and been playing the heck out of it...and Armin could only find the obvious?
That, my friend, is no underground. That's just taking a track that's already gotten approval from the real underground community and releasing it in his new mix compilation when we've all had it for ages.
By the way...I don't mean any disrespect to Mike Foyle. I think he's a fantastic producer and should continue to do what he's doing because he's one of the most talented members we have here at TA. |

| I think Sander Kleinenberg's 'Everybody' (without the 'Too') is nice, although you have to listen to it 4 or 5 times before actually get into it. Just like 'Airdrawndagger' from Sasha. And the Balance cd's from James Holden (005) and Anthony Poppa (006) are absolutely class. I am really not a proghead but from time to time I like some good progressive sounds. |

Few years ago "being a DJ" would mean going to record store and look for such tunes, you think at Armada they don't want good tunes that could potentially sell well and make a name for the producer ? Of course they do, but they're harder to find by the day.
Look at all the bashing ASOT has received because Armin did exactly what you're suggesting, he played a lot of unknown names, and everyone flamed them for being home made reason productions.
It's seems you just can't win with some people.
And let's look at where the so called good producers from 3-4 years ago are ? They vanished, I'm not gonna name anyone, but everyone knows artists that rocked it back then, where are they today ?
I'll tell you where - they didn't make any profit to support themselves or advance into technology which is important so they decided to call it quits and go back to their day jobs. It's sad I know but that's the reality. DJ is in a little advantage here because he'll get paid wether he produces or not, he only has to play. It's not an easy line of work to make a living from, but I think it's unfair to criticise the ones that do, because they work hard for it, and I'm sure it's most of our dreams to be able to do the same but we can't, and from there derive the jealousy posts. |

This is why Armins is the best.
The music and emoticons in his sets are so diverse and varied. Like mike foyle and en mass totally sound different on a color level. So off elitists; armin is # 3 in BPM Poll so he must play teh best music. Online polls don't lie or cheat.
P.S>
I love the underground sound in the ametur production forum. There is this Mr Mystery person who is like super underground with his soundz. Amazin stuff. Next mike foyle for sure. |

no offense taken, because to be fair you have a point. But, I dont think these compilations are over exposing my music, I think that TA is a very small community within the industry, and so although its old news for alot of people here, there are plenty of people around who havnt heard it before. I think the bit i disagree with you about is using the track on the compilations because of the underground aproval thing (whcih by the way was very well put, I just don't agree in this case.) Markus was the first person who actually took an interst in this track, before others had heard it, and this was my first beta version, he suggested things that I aught to change, and after a while it was very much better and very different to how it originally was, it seems perfectly justified that he puts this track on his compilation as clearly from the day he first heard it he considered it a good track, I dont think he even knew that I had shared the beta version online otherwise armada might not have signed it hehe.
Anyway getting away from that point, this discussion is getting a little off topic.
Fresh Prince, I think some of what you're saying is quite biased and a little unfair, although i can appriciate and respect that you are defending the music you like (which happens to be the music I like to), we all need to accept that others are different and entitled to their own taste, until people here learn to live with that fact there will be constant arguing and flaming. Ian, Sandstorm, and whoever else havnt really caused any trouble in this thread, they just answered a question put to them in an attempt to open peoples minds to different styles of music.
At the end of the day, in my opinion, it's impossible to fully appricaite any form of music unless you are open minded enough to give all kinds of music a chance. Listen to some mood music like Enya, Brian Kenedy and Fisher... or try some jazz drum n bass, or maybe some "electronic orcestral", open up your minds and we will all live happily ever after and respect each other like we should!
Hope this has helped !! |
