| I got nothing against gays. Unless they start licking my ass in a shower. |

Ok, now i'm sortof curious. I've been to parties where 50% of the crowd was gay. Vinyl in NYC where Danny Tenaglia used to spin was a religous event for me - but the crowd was always a good mixture of str8 and gays so it didn't ever feel like you were at a gay event, or str8 event...it was a Danny Tenaglia 'B Your Self' event, and that's all that the true fan ever wanted.
The reason i've never considered going to a pride event, or a circuit party is because in my mind that's where you go to not only enjoy the music, but also to meet other gay people. Now maybe my perception of this is completely wrong, if so, please correct me. But what other reason is there to go, unless you aren't in the least bit curious about how the 'other' side parties ?
PS. I ask because i'd feel self conscious about going to a pride event as a stright man. Guys hitting on me isn't a big deal if they're respectful about it, but it seems to me that you're inviting those 'come-ons' if you willingly go to a pride event and you're str8.
I wonder what gay men think about strights crashing their party ?
To me it's like going to a gay bar, and then turning down every man who approaches you cause you're only there for the beer. I'd feel a little strange if I had to do that a few times. Sorta like having people give you the eye cause you've shown up wearing the wrong attire.
Do I have issues...
probably. I promise, I'm trying to work thru them though. :) |

nah, don't consider those "issues" to work through...you're just asking questions a lot of people ask. I think you're also touching on a lot of different things there too...like why people go to clubs in the first place...why would someone who isn't gay go to a gay club...etc.
One thing I keep in mind is that many of us here are the exception to the average club-goer...many TAs, myself included, go to certain events/clubs mainly because of a love of the music, vibe, etc. Many people go to clubs for other reasons though...many mianly go to try to meet someone or just to pick up...
I think gay clubs/events are unique in that sexuality is more out in the open. More than that, sexual orientation a "raison d'etre" for these clubs/events. In choosing to go to Guv, you're might be doing so becuase it's big, open late, has EDM, etc. But while people might choose to go to a gay club for similar reasons too, it's also *because* it's a mainly gay clientele. Of course there's the guy/girl dynamic at clubs...but it's an assumed context as opposed to a specifically created context at a gay club, I think.
so why go to a gay club/event if you're not gay? Same reason someone who is gay would go to a "str8" club/event...for the music, to hang with friends, just to have fun, etc...but yes that's oversimplifying it a bit ;)
I think of it this way...if I don't like (or just don't have any interest in) happy hardcore, why would I go to a club that plays happy hardcore? It might be thought of as weird by other people there for me to be at that club if I'm not a fan. Well...maybe I'm curious to check out a happy hardcore party...or I have friends who are into it and I want to party with them...or maybe I want to support diversity in the EDM scene by hitting some up-and-coming DJ or promoter's party...I dunno. Point being, there could be reasons for a non-happy hardcore fan to be at that club. So if someone is not gay, then why would they go to a gay club? well...maybe for for any of the reasons listed above, right?
It's not quite that simple because sex in our society is a bigger issue than musical taste, I guess. Most people would likely be less concerned at being mistakingly identified as a happy hardcore fan than they would be about being identified as gay by being at a gay club :D
As for gays minding if str8 people go there...IMHO, most would not (and certainly almost no one I know). But gays aren't all "nice" or something...some are s and might have some attitude. Gay does not automatically equal open-minded, friendly and inclusive ;) Of course you'll get attention and probably get hit on...but a polite "I'm flattered, but I'm str8...here with some of my gay friends" type reply to someone hitting on you will *rarely* get a negative reaction...in fact, you'd probably get a few "hey, that's really cool" type responses.
Pride is pretty inclusive...especially the street events...anyone who witnessed Deko-ze tear it up on a street stage last year knows it can be fun.
that's my trashed ramblings for now...bedtime :D |

Until 2 weeks ago I was with a trance hating boy for 5 years !! He use to be frustrated with me when I would be out all night at parties when he couldnt come with me. He gave me a choice, either pick him or trance. I picked trance, and he just started to except it, I actually got him to start liking a little cheese !! I think if I started dating a guy who wasnt supportive of the scene and everything that comes with it, it wouldnt work at all. |

wow
mark said it all in his post...
As a straight guy who regularly frequents gay events...ive had my fair share of guys making a move on me...but ive found the majority of these moves to be very straightforward and NOT sleazy at all...unlike certain sketchy straightmen @ clubs like guv who will pull some downright disrespectful antics every chance they get.
In addition...the majority of gay men are very respectful of the fact that you are straight once you find out...and will even stop by later in the night to say hello and see if youre having a good time. I've never had a bad experience.
Lately as Lauren and myself have been frequenting these clubs, we just enjoy the fact that we can have fun out on the floor and no one gives a rats ass....meanwhile the same antics @ somewhere like guv will get us dirty looks.
damn now im hyped for 5ive next sunday :) :) GOood thread!!!!
*edit* DEKO-ze is a GOD at the street party...hands down one of the best sets i heard last year in terms of energy and crowd interaction |

This thread is funny. Gay here, but i stick to the gay parties because well you can be yourself there. Mainstream clubs are a place for the mainstream...to me thats icky. Anyway i like the conversations in this thread...very openminded.

Ill hands down state that the Gay parties ive gone are easily some of the best damn vibes ive experienced ever at a party. These guys and gals sure do know how to party.

I gotta say one of the best parties I went to last year was the gay pride parade. I don't swing that way but the best part of that parade was that had Church & Wellesley sectioned off and were playing some wicked ass trance and house music. I remember dancing in the middle of the street around 5pm and Deko-ze was spinning. That was a wicked party |
