Iemand hier kennis over Randy Katana? (ja googlen kan ook , i know). Moet hem waarschijnlijk binnenkort een keer interviewen. Dus ik ben benieuwd naar een aantal zaken zoals geschiedenis, projecten, leuke weetjes etc...alles.

Randy Katana was born in St. Maarten (The Dutch Antilles), lived in the Netherlands, Curaçao and Aruba before going to College in Rome Georgia in the USA. On holidays to Aruba (home at that time) he would DJ in the biggest clubs on the island, being 17 years of age.

After dropping out of college around 1983, he moved to the island of St. Maarten again, where he played as resident DJ at ”Studio 7”, the biggest club on the island, for 4 years.

In 1988 he decided to seek new opportunities and moved to the Netherlands to try out in the music business. Equipped with a Roland s10 sampler, a drum computer and USD 500, he moved to Amsterdam. After shortly working in Bebop (now better known as the IT) in Amsterdam, he moved to Switzerland, but in a few months he returned to the Netherlands to start working in a small club in Scheveningen-The Hague called ”Tahiti Club”. There he worked for 9 years as resident DJ. In this club he also met The Freak, with whom he later started the dance label called "Jinx Records". His first track Katana –“Sexual Intimidation" made it big in the dance charts. The second release Katana - "Erotmania" became one of the biggest classics in the history of their record company, which after a few years was named BPM Dance.

After leaving ”Tahiti Club”, he focused on the record company BPM Dance, making it one of the biggest independent record company's in the Netherlands, with labels like Jinx Records, Silver Premium, Tri Lamb, Smoke Free DJ Tools, Bango, 2 Play and many more....
In the year 2002 the music business started to experience difficulties, so he decided to stop activities as a record company on January 2003.

In the summer of 2003 his wife Shila (now for 11 years) and his best friend Abel Ramos (nr 1 DJ in Spain) convinced him to try to become a fulltime DJ. He did. After a tryout in the biggest clubs in Amsterdam he immediately was accepted as resident DJ at "XL" (Kingdom).

After 10 years working as a producer, producing club hits like: "Fancy Fair", "Gemini", "Say Yes", "Tribal Shock, "One Solid Wave" under the name Katana (Randy) and even more under names like "DJ Randy", "Antic" and "Phantom" he finally began his professional DJ career in 2004. This year turned out to be a rollercoaster ride with only one direction...UP. Randy Katana became one of the fastest growing artists in The Netherlands, the most booked international DJ in Spain, and played countries like Poland, Malta, Crete, Sweden and France. In Madrid he played the Fabrik-"White party" together with Judge Jules for a capacity crowd of 7000. In the Netherlands he played some of the greatest festivals: “Beachpop”, “Almere Free Festival", "Dance Valley" the summer & winter edition (main stage). In this year he also made his first entry in the Dutch DJ top 100 at number 93 and he had his first Dance Smash on Radio 538: Randy Katana-Ïn Silence”. This track was also announced “best track of the year 2004” by www.tranceaddict.com.

2005 Started with Randy Katana at the NYE party at "The Arches" in Glasgow, followed by his second Dance Smash on Radio 538: “Randy Katana-“Fancy Fair 2005”. And this was followed In February with his first appearance at ID-T's "Trance Energy". The reactions on the web speak for themselves....

His releases in 2004-2005

Randy Katana "One Solid Wave"
Number one on most Dutch dance charts. Also this track influenced the dance industry in such a way the most trance tracks are now using a tribal beat instead of the usual "bass drum baseline back beat"

Randy Katana "In Silence"
Number one on most Dutch dance charts. First Dance smash on radio 538. Record of the year "www.Tranceaddict.com"

Randy Katana "Fancy Fair 2005"
Number one on most Dutch dance charts. Second Dance smash on radio 538. Reaching several commercial charts like Dutch top 100 nr. 43, Slam FM top 40 nr 8. Dutch top 50 nr. 43.

Three releases, three nr one’s (Dance Charts), two Dance Smashes (Radio 538). According to his record company, a new record.
