I saw it last nite, Really enjoyed it...
I wish they could have made a movie inbetween 3-4, kinda to bring you even more up to speed, but I think that Luke's childhood is uneventful...
Any, George is going to make some star wars TV shows for a while, and then he said "if that is successful, we will see where we go with the saga [aka, he might make more episodes]" |

As one who was really into Star Wars once upon a time, I am thoroughly dissapointed by the new trilogy. Granted that III is better than I and II, it's still a piece of crap. Lucas sold out the rich mythology that was created around his original trilogy by authors like Timothy Zahn, etc. so he could churn out this crowd pleasing merchandising machine. |
I haven't seen III but I'm expecting cheesy dialog, 2nd rate acting, frantic complex plotline and a movie saturated with cgi special effects. Lucas has the unique ability to make even great actors into unemotional cardboard charactures. I won't speculate why Lucas thinks that cgi effects are the most important part of the movie. |

the reason we are saying its e is because, while it did get better, and was darker the plot STRUCTURE sucked.
As a film, it blew. Rapid plot changes, little to no motivation for DRASTIC life altering decisions, like...the robots and how they spoke...who the would program a robot to talk like that. You can jump to lightspeed but you can only make robots sound like stupid 1930s gangsters?
Too much, too fast, for too little. The depth wasnt there, it was a mile wide and an inch deep and it ruined it. If you were impressed by the stupid love scene between the two youre retarded, and for the most part, the same people who liked this movie, would probably get a kick out of watching the laser show version with pink floyd playing in the background, because it was eye candy at best.
The script was gayer than
So this is how people give away their rights..with applause.
I can just see lucas sitting with jazz hands saying "auuhhh" in this ecstatic kind of way at how brilliant that was.

were you entertained, or did you respect it as a film and a member of the star wars tradition? or both?
I think a lot of people are looking at this as a sit there limply breathing out of your mouth kind of thing instead of a critical examination of whether or not Lucas is living up to an absolutely defined level of excellence.
This might have been good if there was nothing else out there...
but seriously, watch Lord of the Rings, and tell me that you sit there thinking how CGish it is. LOTR makes me hate Lucas because i KNOW you can do it seamlessly and awesomely but yeah...it takes a load of work. Its just not a 2005 film in my opinion, and it seems that as someone who yah know...started Lucasfilms and his Industrial Light and Magic...the man who used to set the standard has fallen.
as a stand alone film/movie...its was probably a b+ but as part of the fantasy genre, and the whole point is to bring the viewer into that fantasy world...who felt that they were part of that universe, how many people tried to turn off their lightswitch with the force after watching that?
there was no connectivity, no dialogue between director and audience, no interaction between actors and audience...it was a lightshow. |

the reason LOTR doesnt look too CGIish as you put it is because 2 armies using weaponry which is very similar to the weaponry used a few hundred years ago in real life, fighting battles in a similar fashion (albeit on a grander scale) in settings very similar to earth is relively easy to make look realistic.
star wars is different as EVERYTHING is unrealistic to real life. the weaponry, the space battles, the planets you name it.
btw the special effects for LOTR was by Industrial Light and Magic as was Star Wars |
