Must be a tough life. With all of those commitments how do you manage to squeeze a job in there?
Oh, that's right, you don't have a job! |

were you entertained, or did you respect it as a film and a member of the star wars tradition? or both?
I think a lot of people are looking at this as a sit there limply breathing out of your mouth kind of thing instead of a critical examination of whether or not Lucas is living up to an absolutely defined level of excellence.
This might have been good if there was nothing else out there...
but seriously, watch Lord of the Rings, and tell me that you sit there thinking how CGish it is. LOTR makes me hate Lucas because i KNOW you can do it seamlessly and awesomely but yeah...it takes a load of work. Its just not a 2005 film in my opinion, and it seems that as someone who yah know...started Lucasfilms and his Industrial Light and Magic...the man who used to set the standard has fallen.
as a stand alone film/movie...its was probably a b+ but as part of the fantasy genre, and the whole point is to bring the viewer into that fantasy world...who felt that they were part of that universe, how many people tried to turn off their lightswitch with the force after watching that?
there was no connectivity, no dialogue between director and audience, no interaction between actors and audience...it was a lightshow. |
I agree a little, but I think you are being a overly negative. It was pretty good for an action/sci-fi film. There were some good moments in the film.
The good bits:
+ The start battle sequence was superb. The flow of the action was excellent.
+ The Anakin vs Obiwan duel could not have been done better. It was intense (though I admit the dialogue after the duel when Anakin was sliding down into the lava was weak. *Obiwan turns & walks away* didnt work too well for me)
+ General Grievous is teh greatest CGI roboalien 3v3r!! :p
+ the moments when Padme died & Darth Varder woke was done rather well.
+ The ending scenes tied up movie perfectly. Seeing Luke being delivered to his Auntie & Uncle on tatooine was satisfying.
+ Anakin burning was an intense moment.
+ The dark atmosphere of the movie was well done. The musical score helped create a stressful atmosphere in parts.
+ Jar Jar didnt say a word through the whole film!
+ When Padme went to see Anakin on the lava planet she realised that Anakin had turned to the dark side. At that moment Natalie Portman actually 'acted' I felt sorry for her character. The dialogue at this point was OK.
+ awesome set designs.
The bad bits:
- Flat Characters. Example: The dialogue between Anakin & Padme meant nothing to me. I felt no connection between them.
- General Grievous did not slay any Jedis. In the Obiwan vs Grievous duel; Greivous got his arms cut off too fast!
- At the end Yoda says "into Excile I will go". It was like he gave up too easily.
- The wookie planet scenes were pointless. It was hard to follow the action going on there.
- Why did Sidous give the command to deactivate all the battle droids?? it Seemed pointless. It was like Lucas ran out of ideas & just came up with a basic one liner to give it a reason why there are no battle droids in 4, 5 & 6.
- Alot was crammed into this film. This meant alot of scenes were rushed. It would have been better if some key scenes were played out a longer. For example; Anakin turned to become Sidious's apprentice too fast after Mace Windu was thrown out the window. More time & care would be required to make this key moment successful. I'm still unsure about this. Anakin in the end was only acting selfishly...
- After Darth Vader was assembled into his suit he asked how Padme was. Sidious's explaination was not very good & Vader yelling "NOOOoooo..." was lame. Bad dialogue.
Things Im not sure about :
~ 'Order 66' when the clones were trigger to turn against the Jedi. If this order was programmed into the clones minds then why didnt the order get given at the end of Ep2 Attack of the Clones? |
