Columbia , South carolina played England??
I thought they played Colombia today
just got home, havnt seen the news, so dont know what happened.
by the way the guy who killed Escobar wasnt a "fan" just some criminal mafia bitch that lost a bet and was pissed
I was there in Escobars funeral, the number of people that went to his funeral was overwhelming.Obviously we hated the fact that Escobar did the own goal , but nobody took it too personally. We actually hate Higuita more for what he did against cameroon in 1990 |

come on, atmospeheres in 90% of Italian league games (for example) are ... Juve' are actualy planning to downsize their stadium to under 40,000 in order to make it look more full
their average attendance over the course of a season is somethin rediculous like 13-20,000, i read somewhere a few months back!
Engish top flight games are always sold out or only a couple of thousand off, and the atmos' in ManU - Liverpool, Arsenal - Man U, and all the local derbies, are amongst the best you will find in Europe, I dont think anyone can honestly dispute that |

Call me biased, but apart from the Glasgow derby (which is only on a par with) I honestly dont think you can beat a Sheffield derby for atmousphere and passion! Local derbies are always the best but a lot of the Premiership teams have other teams other than their local rivals that are their main rival (which takes summat out of it) |

Derbies are good everywhere. The Newcastle/Sunderland derby is incredible, we don't have any other rivals at all. Couldn't give a about Boro, neither could Sunderland. Who else is nearby, Hartlepool? Newcastle and Sunderland have been at each other's throat for centuries, long before the football clubs began. But that's not my point. Lazio v Roma is also an amazing derby so it's an irrelevant point.
If you go to St James Park, Anfield, Old Trafford, Highbury etc for an ordinary league game, it is like a library these days! Man Utd v Arsenal might create some noise but that's because it's one of the most important games of the season for both clubs. Go to watch Man Utd v Charlton, Liverpool v Bolton, Newcastle v Portsmouth or Arsenal v Aston Villa and the atmosphere is ! The police are getting their own way. The atmosphere in the lower divisions is better because fans can still get away with more.
In Europe the police don't have so much control over their fans. If you tried setting a flare off in an English stadium you'd probably be banned and possibly even arrested.
As for hooligans, English fans get the reputation because they travel and cause trouble. Most countries who have football leagues have hooligans. England has made more progress than anyone on combatting hooliganism and we probably have some of the safest stadiums in Europe now. It is a problem which is grossly exaggerated by the media. |

On the other side to that, England has the reputation so everywhere they go there is gonna be the other country's fans out to make a repuation for themselves... |

That's not really true. The atmosphere at games in most serie A grounds is far better that premiership grounds of late. The problem with serie A is that during the winter when it's pissing with rain and freezing cold - the stadia provides little or no protection for the support. During the warmer months, you should watch the games invloving fiorentina, calgiari, palermo amongst others, then you'll hear a real atmosphere.

If you watched serie A back when it was on channel 4 then you'd know that Juve fans were complaining way back then that it was impossible to follow the game from the stands as the pitch was far to far away from supporters in the upper tears. They also charge ridiculous amounts for tickets from what I'm led to believe. |

What ever happened to Football Italia anyway? Do Sky show the Italian matches these days? Surely the amount they would make today through adverts would be far greater than it was back then? They should get it back! |

Oh yea, and you can get ur own head out of your own media orientated arse if you think our hooligans are representative of the vast majority of England fans (and if you think Scotland doesn't have hooligans your an idiot...in fact, Rangers fans fight alongside the England fans so looks like your fans are just as bad...) |
re read what i said you bawbag and you will find that i wasnt branding the majority of English people hooligans as im not crass enough but i did state England has a LARGE hooligan element so get it up ye ya prick |

How do people rate a good atmosphere?
The playoff semi-final between Derby vs Preston (in the championship) which is the second tear of english football for anyone who doesnt know produced 32,000 fans. Our average home record is around 27,000 this year. Matches are always very lively with a great atmopshere. I dont think times have changed latelym, obviously stadiums changed when seating was installed etc... though.
I think that the problem with alot of local derbys is violence. It seems that abroad, the violence occurs on the pitch, ie Barcelona and Real Madrid, the Milan derbies. Where as in England it seems to happen around the stadium after the game - portsmouth vs Southampton last 2 years nuturious for this.
Our local Derby with forest is a very heated one. I had no voice left after we beat the scum 3-0.
I think Roy Keane summed up the fans for clubs such as Man Utd and Arsenal, and probably Chelsea now is that they're all prawn sandwich eaters. They're tickets are massive amoutns of money, which means those who can afford it go, leaving a small allocation to the "real" fan. Liverpool is one of a few clubs exempt from that. If you have been to anfield you'd understand. Both them and Celtic are the best support iv ever witnessed and that was from a seat at home. Celtic vs Barcelona. I remember getting goosebumps from the atmosphere in that game because the fans were tremendous.
English fans generally sing allot more i think from what i can tell. I could be wrong. How much are ticket prices too in other countries? Sell outs in the prem are literally at every game par some lower end teams, would be interesting to see price comparisons. |
