why is it a problem whether you do drugs or not? the problem should be, do you act like a fvcking moron on them or not.

i agree with you on the ginos and posers bit and just anyone who isn't there for the music as their absolute number 1 reason, and the druged up wankers that kill the vibe, but there's also ppl that will pop 2 pills or have a few drags of their joint and be very friendly and cary themselves respecatbly/reasonably, i dont see a problem with that.

its exactly the puritan, anti drugs ultra conservative view of many north americans thats killing the EDM scene. out here in the UK, no one cares. yes we have had a couple of clubs shut down because of drugs but there were always other factors involved. the biggest clubs - gatecrasher, godskitchen, fabric, slinky have (imo) about 80% of people on drugs at most events. in my experience i have also found that the "harder" the music the more E is taken (ie i think the most E is taken at hard house/hard trance events).
the result: this weekend in london i had a choice of 5 club nights to go: Dave Seaman, Armin, Steve Lawler, Oakenfold, Darren Emerson or Sander K, not to mention Global Gathering. Last week i saw Sasha. And thats every week.

(this is gonna be controversial and I make no apology)
North Americans, it seems imo, need to become more tolerant towards other people and cultures. its exactly your kind of viewpoints, that you want to have only people like you at raves, that is the root of the problem. imagine a club full of people like you - it would be boring, in the same way that a club full of people like me would be boring. what you need is a mixture - its the mixture that makes EDM such a unique and enduring scene.

At the end of the day, id rather be living in london, taking drugs once a month and enjoying myself with other people who feel the same rather than be like you and never go out...

Oh yeah last friday I was at Turnmills in London, the atmosphere remembered me the most underground clubs of my city and also Ibiza. But then my question was why? A different country, different ppl, different EDM genre... but the atmosphere is quite the same (friendly, generous, respectful ppl I mean). I'm sure the reason is the drugs and mainly E which makes this great atmosphere. Been in more commercial music clubs where alcohol is the first drug and believe me the atmosphere is too different. And I've seen that on the 2 sides; like a no E consumer (the majority of nights) and like an E consumer (the better nights :toothless ).

It's directed at the ginos that come to hit on the mashed girls, the shirtless wonders. It's directed at the morons who aren't there because they like the scene, or dj'ing or anything rave-related aside from 'drugs'.. which, thanks to Oprah and every other talk show/newspaper/20/20 Special, has become so tightly knit together with the rave culture. If I had my way, no one would do drugs at a rave.. simple enough, isn't it? It would save you e-tards a lot of money, save some lives, and filter out the posers and drug-dealers that come to ruin our parties. So next time you see that moron with the sunglasses, no shirt, and a brightly colored top hat on, swing glowsticks around like a monkey; do the scene a favor and kick his ass.

Whew.. I needed to rant. :p

go away, without drugs you wouldn't even have this "scene" or this kind of music.

Dude. Ok. Let me count to 10. Done.

WHY DO DRUGS NEED TO BE PART OF THE RAVE EXPERIENCE???????

Why do non-druggies need to be? :D The "rave" scene was created by drugs, there'll always go hand in hand.

Live with it.

Begin rant:// Here in the Midwest of the U.S. (very minute of a "scene,") take your crowds in London, Toronto, etc and drop about 3/4 of the people and you have now entered into the scene here! So, what I'm getting at, is that even though I'm posting, I'm not one to infuse much relevance. Here, all the E-tards,etc are all sprawled out on the floors in rooms outside of the main-rooms or dancefloors. They are in those dark corners and you don't notice they are there until you trip over them. What I'm saying is that we don't have that here... and in turn, I'm hypothesizing, don't have much persons to even make a scene. Either way, it disgusts me upon entering a rave, so excited that I could blow, and see these mouth-drooling fools wanting to automatically give me a massage.. now that I think of it.. I don't really hold the E-tards in contempt, unless they come up to me, start massaging and swinging their glow balls so close to my face that I begin to fear for my life. For the really ed ones, I only feel humiliation for them. But as i said, these E-tards are the minority. None the less, I LOVE the costumes, the attitude (even if it is by means of a mind-altering substance) the fur, backpacks, etc. I don't dress like this but feel it just adds to the atmosphere. I go to a rave to escape reality, the ways of everyday. If it was up to me.. I would have swings hanging from a ceiling, everyone wearing red contacts and Siberian Tigers roaming about. I dance.. I dance among drug users, pushers, Gooks, Gringos, Ginos?, Chinks, middle schoolers lol, rapists, convicts, E-tards, homos, trans, hermies, etc. 40 year olds (which i've been seeing alot lately) and I still feel liberated. I'm not going to let anyone ruin my experience. But then again, this is coming from someone who's been to raves with only 2-3,000 max. :( I envy you and your E-tards. , just be proud to have a "scene." //end rant.

none the less, BSE, it's very admirable of you to feel so passionately and openly- expressive of a subject when you know it will create controversy and may be bias. Props to you in my book.

E-tards give the "scene" and promoters money, they don't make the scene. Ask yourselves, what did they ever give to the scene besides bad publicity and annoyance to people who are in it for the right reasons, and don't say happiness or you are going to hell.
And also, their is a fine line between accepting people of all types, and people just being ing retarded.
And sure, this scene was somewhat made up from drugs, but it was also made up from gay people, should we all be gay then?:conf:
