I am waiting for the day Adobe porting some of the software I use such as Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop to linux to even bother installing it.

Until then, its Windows all the way.

There's tons of apps in Linux that you can use to edit and create pdfs. It all a matter of putting in a little effort and researching. In case you're looking for a MSOffice equivilant of Linux, OpenOffice and StarOffice are excellent replacements.

I don't think they have a downloadable live-cd ISO anymore, I would have tried it out otherwise. Do you know what SUSE is based on or did they make it from scratch? So far Debian is my top pick (which I've used before in the labs on campus).

[Minimal install + only the apps I need through live install] > [a bunch of crap I don't want or need (like Fedora & Ubuntu)]

I ended up installing Kubuntu. It kicks ass. I love the packet manager (Adept). It makes everything so much more convenient.

Any Kubuntu users here who figured out how to get flash to stop firefox from crashing? I got so annoyed that I got rid fo the flash plugin completely. If somone knows a way around this, let me know.

EDIT: One more thing, does anyone know when Flash 9 is being released for linux?

Have you tried to install it manually? Ie download it from adobe's website and install it in your plugin directory? As opposed to using kubuntu's premade package that i suppose you used before?

Soon, I hope anyway. Check this blog for updates: http://blogs.adobe.com/penguin.swf/ :)

Its really really annoying anyway that they haven't released it yet (and skipped flash 8 for some reason)! Flash used to be ported really fast to linux :S

Anyone here use something other than Fedora that has something to add? St_Andrew, didn't you say you used Gentoo or Suse?

I use Gentoo, it's a pain in the ass to install, the first time anyway. But once you get it running its the most awesome thing out there :) At least compared to everything else I tried (I haven't tried anything else the last couple of years, being so happy about Gentoo)!

The downside to flash is that many websites use flash banners.
The upside to flash is that youtube and google video use flash.
Then again that could be a bad thing too.

I really want to try videolinux since it's optimized for dvd ripping and conversion.

Well, it's kind of strange. It worked just fine initially then firefox started crashing all the time. Then I noticed it was in PDD threads specifically where an imbeded u-tube or google video was posted. So I did a google search for 'firefox + kubuntu + flash' and confirmed my suspicion. BUT, now this is the wierd part. I just manually installed the plug-in using the package from their webpage and now it works fine. :conf: No clue as to how that happened. I'm guessing the repositories in Adept have a bugy package. BTW, what's automatix?
