just a small advice from me to you:
stay hungry? Ignore it. Stay full. Ignore the call to starvation and deprivation. A diet is about what you eat. Not what you don't. |

Lunch 2: Bag of peanuts
For dinner Im gonna get myself some fish.

I drink a protein shake in the morning and a protein shake at night/after the gym.
Plus protein bars *Detour<3* are good if you are feeling hungry during the day. [ snack ]
Atleast with me... they don't make me AS hungry.
other than that i'd stick to... tuna chicken rice and STEAK! |

im a real skinny guy and im lookin to build myself up. i dont eat much in the way of junk - ie:
chocolate
fast food
chinese food
etc
i eat quite healthy - i eat potatoes, fish, chicken, turkey and lots of fruit and veg.
i cant seem to put on any weight tho. im 19 and i weigh something like 9.5 stone which is pretty light for some1 who is 5ft8.
i have no access to a gym and at the minute i have no weights in the house so ive just started to do push ups every day.
2 questions for orbax and any1 else in the know:
1) should i try creatine or pro-whea shakes to try build me up?
2) do pushups actually make ur upper body any stronger?

What you do is you forget about GI, Carbohydrates, and everything else. You concentrate on Calories. Calories are the most important things if you want to lose fat. You can eat as many meals a day as you want, and the more the better in fact, as long as you regulate what they consist of calorically. Calorically calorically...mmmmm....calorically. Anyway, I could explain it here, but instead i'll just direct you here. Read it, know it, love it like a tender steak.
The key is knowing how many calories you burn through exercise and how many calories you take in through food each day. You'll need to keep a log of some kind. |

1) Whey shakes won't really help you gain weight because they usually are low calorie. Creatine won't make a difference unless you workout hard, and some might even argue that.
2) Pushups will build your chest, delts, abs to a certain extent, but they are a very innefficient way to build muscle, and you could be left muscularly unbalanced working a certain muscle range only.
If you can't gain weight, you simply need to eat more. Try counting your calories for the day and adding 500 on to that. |

there are several types of protein shakes
whey and casein. Whey is a rapid absorption material and casein is a longer type. you have to drink whey 2-3 times a day and casein about 1 hour before and a little after a work out for maximum growth.
The biggest part of bulking after a workout is eating carbs to replace glycogen stores. Im a fan of sweet potatoes. takes 4 minutes in the microwave to cook. After that, the protein. 2grams is pretty excessive and to be sure...protein IS bad for you. Its hard on your heart, liver, and kidneys. It makes you a brick and your body has a real real hard time absorbing it. Thats why you have to drink so much because so much isnt used.
If you dont replace the glycogen you eat your muscle instead because it needs its energy back. So...100g of carb 60g of protein after a work out rocks you in a good way.
Eggs are a great source as well and use the Omega III eggs or get flax seed oil and take a tbls spoon of it 2x a day.
losing weight is easy, dont eat so much and work out and run hard as you can.
Ive done gaining 20lbs of pure muscle in 2 months to losing a lb a day and its all diet and how hard you push yourself in the gym
lately i can only work out about 2x a week because my workouts are so intense.
to lose weight its the exact same balance of food. just a lot less. Drink a pot of coffee throughout the day. Wrap a piece of whole wheat bread around 5-6 slices of lunch meat. Get chicken breasts and fish and make salads...use www.fitday.com and count calories if you dont know this stuff well and be eating around 1700 a day to lose weight.
When I was bulking i was eating between 5 and 7000 calories a day.
(((
pushups will make you stronger at pushups. Your body responds to the type of pressure on it and that compound of a movement just mainly burns calories. Wont do a whole lot for looks. The world champion pushup guy looks like a bitch so...id do it with weight and be doing 3 sets of 8ish with like 60lbs on your back if not more.
pullups would be much more worth while
*****
as for creatine...
ATP is your body's fuel. Creatine is basically phosphogen. Which is another supplement out there. Your body basically snips off the phosphate head and uses it for energy. Creatine super saturates your body with phosphate heads for rapid reabsorption which lets you knock out some more sets thus increasing the overall work/pressure done on your body.
I dont think anyone who hasnt been working out for a year or so already should use it and its mainly for breaking through plateaus. It is for 2-3 months at a time max and shouldnt (like protein shakes and all other supplements) be used for extended period of time. |
