This thread is now officially invaded.

well, since it was started by a pom, i'd say the invasion began a while back :p just in friendly nature. That's something I've enjoyed about the whole series, these guys are good mates off the field, and are competing closer on it. Can't ask for much more than we've had, even if we were losing these matches instead of winning, i'd still be enthralled by it all

the crowd, the drama, the excitement, ITS ALL HAPPENING!!! argh haha woke up my mum at 3am when we got the last wicket, far out what a finish, i was just sitting there in my bed going come on you can get another wicket, warney was brilliant, but in the end the target was just too small. now the pressure is really on us to win the last test. what a series!!
Light The Fuse
fark they almost coulda had em if it werent for a few dodgey umpiring descisions...ahh well next test should be pressure cooker
Tweak
i think losing like that makes it harder to take - if we didnt have bad luck we wouldnt have any luck at all
tubby
even though I'm enjoying the result, i'm far more happy that there's a good contest happening. 3 day games, wins by hundred's of runs are not very interesting. this is great to watch.

Yeah no matter how much I troll and whoever wins, its still kicked massive ass so far - the next test will be brilliant but I'll miss most of it as I'll be in Germany :(
Ghostface
lol, how easy some of you forget the last 15 years. Anyway we have been outplayed so far, that's for sure. But even so England have won two tests by 3 wickets and two runs. Hardly dominating.

Can't wait for the final test. :D

Ponting and Katich fined for outbursts

Ricky Ponting was fined 75% of his A$12,500 match fee and Simon Katich was docked half following ugly outbursts during Australia's second innings at Trent Bridge. The pair attended a hearing last night after the narrow three-wicket loss that gave England a 2-1 series lead.

Ponting was in trouble after reacting angrily after being run out on Saturday by the substitute Gary Pratt's direct hit for 48. Katich, who made 59, was fined for dissent for his behaviour following an lbw decision given by Aleem Dar.

Ranjan Madugalle, the match referee, found Ponting guilty of breaching rule C2 of the ICC code of conduct which states that "players and/or officials shall at no time engage in conduct unbecoming to their status which could bring them or the game of cricket into disrepute". Katich was charged under rule 2.2, which covers serious dissent at an umpire's decision by action or verbal abuse.

Throughout the series Australia have been concerned by England's use of substitute fielders, which they believe are a way of giving the home side's quick bowlers a rest. Pratt was replacing the fast bowler Simon Jones, who was off the field with a right ankle injury.

As he waited for the third umpire's decision on Saturday, Ponting sounded off and also talked to Dar. Then when he walked up the pavilion steps Ponting appeared to let fly with some angry words in the direction of the England dressing room.

Ponting released a statement apologising for his behaviour. "I was disappointed with my dismissal given that it was a crucial stage of the game and I'd worked hard to get to that position," Ponting said. "I let myself down with my reaction and for that I apologise to those who see me as a role model. My frustration at getting out was compounded by the fact that I was run out by a substitute fielder, an issue that has concerned us from the start of this series and one we raised before the series."

Substitutes are generally only allowed if players are ill or injured. However, according to the Laws of Cricket, it is the umpires who have the responsibility for letting substitutes take the field and the opposing captain has no right of appeal.

Replays of Katich's dismissal showed Steve Harmison's delivery had pitched outside the left-hander's leg-stump and that the ball would have also gone over the top.

So basically the umpires are too gutless to confront England about it?

Isn't the 12th Man supposed to be the replacement in the field, or was he already on?
Philby
thats the complaint, that they have 12th man and then they still bring in all these other players as well.

no i dont think that is the complaint, the complaint is that the 12th man should only be coming on following an injury to somebody in the first 11 which apparently hasnt been the case for england when the 12th man has been coming on . not sure whether this is true or not though

england have been playing really well, our batters again have been letting us down unfortunatly, hopefully they can put in one good effort and save the last test and save the series, which i think would be tough luck for england because they have played so well

our '12th man' is chosen at the start of the day from the county teams who don't have a game. Pratt who ran out Ponting was in the field for a day as that, and doing other duties before, but on Sunday he had to play for his county side so Penney became the 12th man (funny thing is he's actually from zimbabwe lol) Pratt ran ponting out while Simon Jones was in the hospital having scans on his ankle, and it's the same as Brad Hodge who came on as 12th man for Clarke the match before :)
