Now that, right there, is in fact subjective and opinion based - And I'll leave you to it :)
But I will say this; If I ever met Jason Schwartzman or any of the other s from Phantom Planet, they'd all be served knuckle sandwiches compliments of Cafe' RJT.

Who, specifically, are you talking about?
Success =\= Commercial. |

A lot of bands from the 60's that people go "ohh they weren't commercial blah blah blah" because they are old.
I guarantee, ask anyone from that era that isn't a fan boy and they will tell you that they were commercial bands for the most part, obviously not as commercial today, but that was due to the lack of easy channels of distribution. |
Like who? Sorry, vague responses irritate me incredibly. Are we talking about Country Joe and the Fish here? Ritchie Havens? The Dead? The Band? Dylan? Hendrix?
I'm just looking for some substance for your argument here Nou... I'd love to see you compare DJ Sammy to any of the names I just listed. |

i honestly don't know enough about the hippie/jam band genre to debate or defend my point... i don't know what bands were considered commerical or "pop" sensations during the 60's and 70's. like i said, there are talented and untalented musicians in every genre, and their commerciality has nothing to do with their talent.
i also think that the standards for what became popular and commercial 30 years ago is entirely different than the kind of stuff that becomes commercial in modern day.
i was just trying to say that a majority of emo/indie music that appeals to a modern day commercial audience is not created by outstanding and amazingly talented musicians. specifically... Rooney and Phantom Planet, probably the 2 biggest bands that were featured on The OC. their music is catchy but there's really nothing to it. the lyrics are simple and boring, and any group of guys who are familiar with the instruments and a lead vocalist who has a pleasant sounding voice could create it. it's just fun, catchy music that was well-produced.
i'm not really trying to take sides here... because i enjoy music from BOTH genres. i was just trying to illustrate the point that Rob was trying to make, from a more neutral perspective. i agree with you that there are talented emo/indie musicians, and i agree that there have been talented musicians featured on The OC... but they're usually not the ones who are all commercial and popular. |

marissa died, wtf man??:wtf: :conf:
guess she wanted to get off the show, and from the previews it looks like she is going to be replaced by her sister. i think it was wise for mischa to leave the show because once next season comes the ratings are going to drop even more.
but i liked how they did flashbacks to the first season. that was cool :tongue2 :tongue2 :tongue2 |

quote: | NEW YORK (AP) -- Mischa Barton says it was better to be killed in a car wreck on "The O.C." than to leave the Fox teen drama in "one of those lame farewells."
Barton's character, Marissa Cooper, died in the arms of ex-boyfriend Ryan Atwood (Benjamin McKenzie) after Ryan lost control of his sport utility vehicle and crashed. The third season's closer aired last week.
"Well, I was really excited that I get to die, to be honest," the 20-year-old actress tells Newsweek magazine in an interview. "I've done pretty much everything else with the character. It was better than one of those lame farewells."
Marissa had been central to "The O.C." since the show's debut in 2003. The Newport Beach teen had battled depression and drug and alcohol abuse, had a brief lesbian relationship and was expelled from her posh high school for shooting a man.
Although rumors flew in recent months that Barton was ready to leave the show, she says her departure was the producers' decision.
"But I really think it's best to do movies now," says Barton, who co-stars with Hayden Christensen in "Guilty Pleasures," slated for release next year.
"I was also thinking of spending a month in London, living there and taking a course in acting," she says. "Sometimes it's nice to go back to your roots."
Will she ever return to "The O.C." in a dream sequence?
"Oh, God. I hope not. That would be cheesy."

So, I watched the O.C. for the first time last night. It's totally a soap opera, but I like it.
Lots of eye candy, good actors, nice scenery, interesting storyline... did I mention there was hotties?
I think I am in love with Adam Brody. :)
Anyway, I dl'ed the first season, so I watching them from the beginning. I think I will continue to download them. |
