REVIEW: Oakie at the Guv - Sep. 17 (pg. 11)

I guess its finally time for my review.
Got in just before 12 with Tristan, and we were trying to figure out when Hernan would come on. 12, Hernan is on, we are on the floor. I spent too much of my time during his set walking around, getting water, going to the washroom. It was a shame. HC did play a great set, but I only really got in to it, when he played AFTERMATH!!!! After that i was jumpin.
Here is no way I could compare Hernan's set to Oakey's. I waited for Oakenfold, i got Oakenfold. Started the set off nicely, with a bunch of tracks i had never heard before, which was nice because he plays best with a mysterious warmup to his end. The mixing was a bit off at times, but hell im not about to complain considering this is the way i have wanted to hear oakey since i started listening to trance.
The set felt like an old school essential mix to me, just an amazing build the entire night. People who danced with me, know i just went nuts the entire night! There is no other sound that even compare's to oakey's for me. People may say what they like, but I think he just controlled the crowd perfectly. Jenn thanks for realising that it was a night amoung nights for me, after giving me a hard time :D.

i didnt think so. For me it was like a time warp. Brought back wicked memories especially universal nation. That was the first track i remember when i dropped for the first time in DEC 98. The vibe at guv hasnt been that high for years. |

some really useless arguments here from all parties involved.
this was a great night at guv...packed but really did anyone expect any less....the middle of the floor was actually decent at times and it was the sides of the club that had most of the traffic (from people walking here and there).
I'd like to hear Cattaneo spin a longer headline set at guv after what he did...just pure tunage from start to finish.
Oakey - well i said it before i went...his mixing was gonna suck but his performance was right on. NO ONE can play those songs (the classics) like he did and this is coming from a NON-Oakey fan. I don't like him..i don't like his attitude to the scene now days and i certainly don't like any of his new "stuff". plus terrible ing hair....but i will go back and listen to him as a dj everytime he's here cuz i never fail to have a good time.
Im sick of people turning most conversations about our scene today into a battle between "house" and "trance" ...its music people...just in dance already :) :) |
