The Supersaw Thread (pg. 16)

just to clear one thing up, if you read my post again you will see that I'm not insinuating that you were dissing an artist, you did sound like you were dissing the supersaw waveform since you wanted this thread to die. I simply don't believe that you wrote it because you thought this thread was too long. Threads with much info usually are long and that's never a negative thing. if you think that then you are browsing forums overall for the wrong reasons.

and as I wrote to you in my answer to your PM, no I'm not suicidal and no I'm not a maniac (I can't see what that even has with this to do tbh).

and btw. why are you so shure that I'm a guy? ;)

ohh and another thing, you haven't answered my second question yet ;)

i'm liking this supersaw patch (3xosc)... hope it doesn't sound for-hard-trance-only... hehehe

i read in many forums underestimating this synth... well, i hope this will give this lil dude justice :D

The 3Osc is such a good synth.

I always use it. Most people seem to over look it in favour of the bigger "more pro" ones.

3Osc is good for Basslines, leads, pads, strings, acid (to some degree) and you can get some good textures out of it too with tweaking.

The only reason for this is that not everyone uses FLStudio and people go for more univesal plugins "Native Instruments and Novation for example". I'm not saying the synth sucks "but it lacks a good unison mode, which is required to make pads and leads not sound "fake"", all I am saying is that some people don't like using FLStudio or they can't because its Windows only. If only FL would be made cross-platform. They would get SO many more customers "me atleast, looks like good software ((EVEN though I will never leave Ableton Live ;-))."

This is my sample, and i made a tutorial on it, if u check the forum ;)

Made with V-Station, not external fx added.

Enjoy

hi substorm... i noticed you used noise in the saw pad of yours... the clip sounded a lil bit noisy with the extra noise you had there. maybe if you could try minimise it a lil bit more (or better still have it off), it could just sound better :) anyway, it's just personal preference...

Im getting pretty close with a Virus B. I think a couple more revisions and some touching up on the post EQ and a fecking pair of monitors so I can hear what I'm doing ( :( ), I'll have it almost dead on within the next 2 months. Will need feedback on the EQ as I havent cross referenced it on headphones yet. It may have too much top end past 18,000hz and not enough upper mid range.

The entire sound cannot be played back in 24 voices. Not with the release envelopes as long as they are. In order to get a similar timbre to the supersaw oscillator, I had to use 3 notes with unison x5 on and the 3rd oscillator.

That is 3x 5 voices = 15 voices to play chords.

Then, I doubled it up in FL Studio, which is another 3x 5 voices = another 15 voices.

Then I rendered intervals being played with slightly higher detune (unison detune was already on 127), higher panspread and a slower attack envelope.

The whole thing was mixed at the recorded output levels and the end result = 15 + 15 + 10 voices = 40 voices at 4 oscillators per voice.

That is, 120 detuned saw waves and 40 triangle waves. 2 to 3 times that number if you factor in the delay. Thats a lorra saw waves. More than I expected in order to simulate supersaw timbres anyway.

There are 2 instances of Fruity Delay on it, SIR reverb and a number of post/corrective EQs.

As of today, I think I have the timbre down, nearly perfect. But the post EQ is not right yet. The overall sound is still duller at the upper mid kind of area than the JP Supersaw - at least the sample I am referencing this patch from.

If I could get a recording of a raw supersaw oscillator played at C2, C3. C4 and C5 at various unison settings, then a filter resonance sweep soundtest of a supersaw oscillator, I think I can model it more closesly.

Here is my try : http://perso.wanadoo.fr/TranceDevotion%20/JP8000.mp3

it's the same patch... slight tuning...

oh yeah, please don't mind the quality, it's just the saw i'm trying to emphasize here... the bass, submelo, and melody are using the same sound set. beats aren't fx'ed... :)
