Friday night at Mezzanine: Lee Burridge was funky - not my speed but that's cool. The Funktion One system was lacking a lil' in the bass department but sounded especially good in the mid-mid high range depending on your location on the floor. In another thread titled something like "Lee Burridge review" I mention that the male to female ratio was 20.7/1. That part was brutal!! It also was a tad steamy in there.
The Love Parade: Festive and fun. Victor and I rode in on the XM float. Steve Porter was great on the Ingrooves float. Bumped into Chris and Kai and loads of other great people, old friends, and the usual nocturnal suspects. It was refreshing to see a few fellow NY'kers in town. I ate a chicken sandwhich that might have been a pigeon turd sandwich. Lots of weird to see. I saw some dude walking around with some kind of genital pouch and nothing else - it looked like it could have been called a "sock" or something. The weather was very pleasant the whole weekend and that was a bonus for SF in late Sept. Downtown has some really high-end shopping. I was surprised to find a Hermes store. I thought you would only see that on Rodeo Drive. Spundae and Skills put on an entertaining float from beginning to end. The EAW/Crown sound was the fullest I heard at LP although there were a few close rivals such as Mighty's (I believe it was) Funktion One set-up which comprised of a pair of triple stacked bass bins in mono and two pairs of three ways in stereo. That gear sounded clean and well rounded when they were dropped it on the ground in the square.
The Official Love Parade Afterparty: Too many 13-15 y.o. all over the place - a big lawsuit waiting to happen. Entry was completely disorganized and an unecessarily cumbersome process. Too much bull! The promoters risked getting shut down IMO, because it was obvious that by the obvious disorganization (whomever responsible for it) inbound would translate to a catastrophe in the event of an emergency evacuation due to lack of preparedness. In fact, I'm inclined to state that it was so poorly managed that the San Francisco Fire Authority unjustly risked lives by letting the party happen the way that the entry indicated it did. Also, I'm certain that some patrons waited at least 2 hours to get inside once 10PM rolled around. We Stayed for a total of 15 minutes during which time I got a hot dog and a Pepsi. We didn't stay long enough to finish the 16oz Pepsis. I'm sure the talent did great. It was a nice line-up. I only regret not staying long enough to see Piet and Jaspa.
After we left the OLPAP, we went over to a little spot around Ceasar Chavez and 15th called Mighty. The legal capacity was 506 but at peak there were easily 750 people inside alone. It was crammedThe room was very hot so we spent the whole time outside in the smoking area inside this gutted out school bus with a cozy couch. The Fire Department crawled by a couple of times. Got to meet a few cool locals there. One guy Josh smuggled some wine in. Not only was it rich and delicious, but the perfect company to my state of being in the universe at that time. The music inside was horrible unless you are into butchered gospel electronica (or whatever it was). Outside there was 70s and 80s tunes playing and it was a big improvement over the cacaphonous massacre occuring inside. It's a tough one when the song of the night was Rapture by Blondie featuring Fab 5 Freddy and Grandmaster Flash. The crowd was decent with the exception of a few mental midgets lumbering around with their sideways hats, thin side-burns, clown costumes and age old wannabe "gangsta" greetings such as "yo wuss up heomboy" and "yo dawg gotta smoke?". Luckily that didn't represent the majority at Mighty. We had a great time over there and had the best seats in the house.
When that closed we went to Gingerbread in a "deeper" industrial part of town. There was an upstairs and a downstairs. I hung out mostly upstairs in the smaller room. There were great vibes in there. They played breaks and deep progressive trippy house. Holy f*ck - Lots of internationally originated chemicals were floating around there the world over. Columbia, Burma, and Afghanstan particularly come to mind - no thanks to that! My favorite part of being at this place was meeting and watching an artist by the name of Jamas Welch. He was painting images with neon body paint and he had a little blacklight set-up on this couch we were siiting on. He painted whatever came to mind on the spot. He painted colorfull masks on peoples faces, and creative stuff on peoples arms, hands, and backs. One girl got a enormous butterfly on her whole back (she had a low cut spaghetti strap blouse so you could see most of it after he was done with it. I got Jamas' contact infomation, he was definitely a special person with the ability to express his passion through art. He didn't charge anyone for his work, but I gave him a little donation because it was entertaining to watch. He also paints oil on canvas and conventional artwork too. We left there at closing (I think it was 6AM or 5AM) I wasn't too particular on the time by then.
Finally it was The End UP until about 4:30 in the afternoon! I just can't even go into what a great time and loads of laughs we had there. After 9AM the real hardcore crowd rolled in. The music was great. Stereo 8 and Terry Francis destroyed the place with great progressive and deep, cracked out house. The number one selling feature of The End UP: The patio. I felt like I was in another world, secluded from San Francisco but with the San Fran people and spirit. I also met a ton of very cool locals here. Too much going on all the time. Simply put: The End Up is a MUST place to wind up when the clubs are done Saturday night. I feel sorry for anyone who didn't go there Sunday Morning. Next time I'm in town for the weekend I'll definitely miss Morning Mass for some devilish heresy.
It was a great and memorable weekend. I Spent lots of money and took a bunch of cab rides. I hope to see you all there next year and then some. We are going in full-force for Love Parade III! |

Okay time for my review of the weekend, now that I've gotten some sleep in...
The weekend started out kinda crappy; freshcoast & I were taking the same flight from LAX to SFO and it was delayed about an hour. We finally landed around 11, took the BART and met kfrogger at the hotel around 12. From there on the weekend only got better. We went straight to check out Lee Burridge at the Mezzanine. It was my first time there and it was a blast. The atmosphere was cool, the bartenders made fairly good drinks, we met up with a few other TA's there, and I got to meet Bas and his girl for the first time. Cool guy (too bad you didn't get to dance with your buddy ;)). Afterwards we ate at Mel's Diner where our in-meal entertainment came in the form of Tigo & Tigo:

The next day freshcoast, kfrogger, and I got out to the parade around 2:00 in the afternoon. I have to say I really wasn't looking forward to this as much as I was the afterparty, but I was pleasantly surprised. The music from all the floats was thumpin, and the people were real friendly. The only thing that sucked were the old naked guys on rollerskates, especially the one that stayed right in front of us! :whip: The parade finally settled in the huge courtyard in front of the Civic Auditorium/City Hall. I stayed pretty much in front of the Spundae Float and had fun. Didn't do much dancing because I was trying to conserve my energy for the night. Crowd was pretty cool, not too pushy, and I saw some more TA's there. The guy who got Markus to take a pic of him + Michelle & Kris cracked me up though :haha:
Finally the afterparty came around. We got in line at 9 which sucked, because it was all the way around the corner. It took about an hour to get in. They didn't check ID's -- perhaps I was mistaken but I thought it was 18+. :conf: Some guy at the door tried to give me a flyer and I said "no thanks," as I walked by but then he shouted "It's got the lineup on it!" so I thanked him and grabbed one. :) From there I caught some of Carl Cox and DJ Dan with some wandering between the other 2 rooms in between. I hadn't heard either of these guys before but I definitely wasn't disappointed. From there it was Blank & Jones and they were throwing it down except for the power went out like 4 or 5 times! They had a sweet-ass multicolored laser in room #2 which not only looked badass from the front, but it made some tight patterns on the back wall.
Left B&J early to see Markus and from then on I was in the groove! I met a TA from Toronto with a white Tranceaddict.com shirt on, but I forgot his name. Doh! Markus got my ass shakin' but Ferry Corsten got it moving in a major way! I have to say the highlight of my night was hearing the whole, huge-ass auditorium singing the melody when Digital Punk came on. Totally awesome and it gave me chills up my spine. That was my first time seeing Ferry too and I thought it was incredible.
From there we ate at Mel's again, packed our bags at the hotel, and flew home. I took naps in between at the airport and the taxi... Then crashed hardcore til almost 11 at night. :toothless
All I can say is that I will definitely be going to the next Love Parade! It was great seeing everyone. :D Good times, good times.
Edit: Oh yeah, can't forget about the couple having stand up sex in the middle of the dance floor during Ferry's set... |

LMFAO!!!! omg if any of u guys had the pills me and Tigo had...that would have been u guys too!!! after Tigo got kicked out of Mezzanine for "looking way to ed up" i didnt want to get Sarah, so we left her inside to enjoy the night and went to Mels Diner to kill some time. Inside Mels....me and the other Tigo would keep zoning out into our world every now and then...and that picture says it ALL LMAO!!! Lee threw down some yummy tracks...and i liked the club as well...but i thought it was going to be bit bigger! went back to the hotel afterwards to smoke some pot and get some rest for LP! Woke up the next day had some good breakfast right by Ruby Sky then met the TA's in the park! we made our way to the start of the LP and walked all the way till it stoped! we were mostly at the Spundae float but thanks to Bas i made my way on the anu22 float and had a little word with Desyn as well! after that went back to spundae float and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon! me and Sarah left around 8:55 before the parade eneded so we could find a cab back to the hotel! we did and we went for a quick breather....around 9:45ish we get to Spundae afterparty where we find a HUUUGE line....we find Simon (thank you bro) and cut in line :) we get inside after like an hour of waiting. we see the usuall suspects and chit chat a bit! i was dead tired at this point so we went upstairs to sit for a bit! apperantly i fell asleep upstairs for about an hour...lol which i dont even remember....then Sarah woke me up and we went downstairs to listen to Ferry! maan i had an amazing time this year as i did last year but...shiiit i cant wait till next year!! Ferry and Carl Cox were by far the best DJ's in my opinion at the LP!! so much energy!! "from new york , london to amsterdamn lets , lets , lets , i wanna rock ur body rock!" wahooo
Sunday was one of the wierdest days of my life i must say! we have some more breakfast and walk to Folsom St to see the Folsom Fair! it was full of dudes in black rubber most with no clothes on...guys jerkin off....if u thought LP was bad....U HAVE NO IDEA!!!! although it was wierd for me and Tigo....im sure Sarah got a kick out of it ;) lol.....well anyway im still a little brain-dead and slept for about 14 hours today...so im gona get some lunch and post some other later.... |

It can play in WMP if you have Nero 6 installed, Nero 6 has a codec that suports MPEG-4 playback on Windows Media Player. |

| Well, I just finished watching that video, It was really cool, But there seems to be something wrong with the video right at the end, With just a couple of seconds left before the end, The video freezes, I think who ever that encoded the video, Shouldve encoded it in another format rather then mpeg-4, There are many issues with MPEG-4 videos these days, If the person who made the video is reading this, Tried encoding video to Divx next time. |
