Before labeling something as degrading or disrespectful the viewpoint that it comes from needs to be acknowledged. Although you may be of Iranian decent, you are also male, live in a Western country and go to a Western University.
As a Western society I don't believe we should try and alter laws in other countries to fit 'our' views of what is appropriate.
If Western society wants to step-in I feel it should be to help organize these commuties at a grassroots level to help them attain the rights and freedoms they want.

Sahand I totally understand where you’re coming from on this. If the majority of women don't agree
to covering up then there should be some reform. And in the case of the Iranian government, it looks like
they really don’t give a damn. Which is sad because if you do believe that the younger generations of
women are becoming more liberal and want to take it off then they should. As for the religious
implications, well I know quite a few Muslim's who live here and practice their faith and many of
their women do not have to cover up in public, only in their place of worship. |

Just like everything else in life.... change can only begin from WITHIN!
What good does it do if we sit here and complain? Nothing really. U know, I know... most people know that it's wrong to impose or force these women to "cover up". But there's absolutely NOTHING that the Canadian gv't or UN or anybody (individually) can do unless there's an uprising or revolt from people within the country/state. Once that happens...well then they would have the assistance and support from those abroad.
And also..although it's seems ridiculous that these women have to cover themselves up to play soccer... well.. think about it... just a few years ago they weren't even allowed to play soccer. That itself is a step towards change. BABY STEPS.. take the victories as they come..however small they are. U can't expect the entire mentality, social structure to change overnight. |

Islam is a disease of the mind.
These woman are FORCED to cover themselves up in this disgusting symbol of subordination. I cant beleive some of you are actually defending this attire by labelling it as tradition or something that they view as being mandatory.
Humans are sexual beings, men have an equal sexual desire like women do. Women shouldnt be afraid to flaunt their beauty and sexuality. It is natural.
These religious heads need to be shot and pissed on by the whole country |

first of all, its always a positive attitude to raise awareness of such issues/matters ...
and you said it ... its utterly ridiculous how these and many other women are forced to cover up. We are born free ... we must live free ... FREEDOM OF CHOICE is vital |
