Canadian Pres
Toronto — Ontario's Conservatives plan to introduce a motion of non-confidence in the Liberal government over the so-called Sorbara scandal.
The Canadian Press has learned the Tories will move the motion over this week's surprise resignation of former finance minister Greg Sorbara amid allegations of fraud.
The motion claims “the premier failed to ensure the highest level of integrity for his ministers.”
It also says the Liberals are “under a cloud of scandal.”
Conservative House leader Bob Runciman will introduce the motion.
Premier Dalton McGuinty had to move Dwight Duncan from energy to the finance portfolio just hours before the throne speech opening the fall session of the legislature.
He also promoted backbencher Donna Cansfield to the pressure-filled energy portfolio.
Mr. McGuinty said Mr. Sorbara would have to be exonerated by the RCMP investigation before he could be returned to the cabinet. |
Jumping the gun a bit are they...
And the true Tories were the Progressive Conservatives... |

I wish we had the recall law in Ontario. These guys broke promises THE DAY AFTER the election. This has to be a record. |

Conservatives = conserve
Liberals = tax and spend
NDP = tax, spend, and borrow
Good god how could anyone support the NDP... the last thing we need is higher taxes AND a whopping debt. |

The only reason they had to break promises was because when they got the true numbers from the last regime they were so screwed they had no other choice. |

What a lame excuse. Those numbers were published long beforehand - and even if they weren't, there are ways to fix the budget other than raising taxes. Besides, you're blaming Mike Harris for screwing it up? He HELPED our budget more than any other Premier in recent years!
I would vote for them, but since the Lieberals seem to have such a stranglehold, that's just taking votes away from the Conservatives who are the only viable competitor right now.
I don't think Canadians are ready for that kind of government - maybe they will never be. Best thing to do in the meantime is try to nudge society back onto the beaten path with a *slightly* more freedom-loving government. |

That is the greatest problem.....The liberal party does have a strnagle hold....so many people don't like the conservatives and then go vote NDP or some other small party and it just keeps the liberals in power. Personally, the liberals have done nothing to upset me. They have lowered the defecit by over 3 billion dollars already. The have improved the school system and are working on improving the health care system. All this takes time and unfortunately they were put behind the eight ball from the get go. When it comes time for an election the liberals will promise all the right things and they will stay in power another 4 years. Personaly, I think they need a new leader though |

Actually, the improvements to the school system were initiated by Harris. He just got voted out before people had a chance to see the results.
They've lowered the deficit by raising taxes... that's almost a no-brainer. A good government would lower the deficit by reducing waste and improving their operational efficiency.
As for health care, what have they done to improve that? It's just been getting steadily worse, as clearly demonstrated by the SARS issue. The best thing that ever happened to health care here was the recent court decision in Quebec effectively decriminalizing private health care.
But you're right about one thing: people will vote Liberal or NDP simply because they don't like the conservatives. They don't bother to actually research the parties' respective platforms and make an informed decision - they just go with their knee-jerk emotional reaction to the word "conservative" and think "anything else!". |
