maybe in the past, but these days?
they have some of the best production values in EDM

Eh, no they don't. Outnumbered isn't even near the best production I've heard.

True. Correct me, if I'm wrong, but Liam used only one Roland sampler and Roland MC-202 in the whole album. IMO it's a well produced album, but it hasn't the best versions of the tunes in it.

i'd agree there, but if you want full 'best' versions, you'd hunt them down on vinyl :)

For one example Shpongle's newest album. The production is absolutely razor-edged. It's not that good otherwise, but the production is perfect.

BT's newest album also comes to mind.

I agree there, however I think some of the tracks are amazingly good, well thought out & innovative.

I wouldn't say so. The recognisable Prodigy sound is one that is almost deliberately rough around the edges, dominated by big hooks, big samples and big beats. There's little subtlety to any Prodigy tracks, least of all their new ones. Look at Spitfire- it's just a really loud Led Zeppelin drum beat with some hooks floated across the top. It works really well, but the strength is in the music, not in the choice of synths or sound quality.

And Cinos: no it isn't. Whether or not you like the end product, there is always going to be more skill required to write a complex, multi-layered track than something as stripped-down as Energy Flash.

It's like saying it's subjective whether Mozart is a better music writer than Richie Hawtin.

i havent heard bt's latest, but about sphongle - one example of how it doesnt have higher production values, is how weak most of the percussions are, they lack punch.
his album totally accentuates the melodical aspects at the expense of the percussive aspects = unbalanced.

edit: just wanted to clarify i dont think shpongle's album isn't well produced, it's one of the best of the year i think. i just think the prodigy's latest is better (production wise).

because it's all down to taste & opinion, and that's always going to differ between people, it's something that should be accepted yet we have people like the thread starter and yourself who're trying to make it something it's not, and then putting it down for not living upto that. Just deal with the fact that you & others don't think it's done a good job over the years when myself & others do, and stop looking for ways to argue every single point until nobody gives a to argue the case anymore & you delude yourself that you've won.

Basically you're just pissed that people are dissing one of your alltime favourite records. But since you can't seem to find any arguments to counter mine, you resort to personal attacks instead:

So much for constructive debate, which you've been moaning that this place lacks over and over. Oh yeah, and to be a politician, you HAVE to have argumentation skills, otherwise you'll get torn to shreds.

Some are, yes. Some are REALLY damn good. But overall it tends to lean towards "bland" when compared to their earlier stuff.

No. To make the stripped-down music interesting requires more skill than to make a multilayered one such.

"Interesting" is pure subjectivity. The musical knowledge, the time and the attention to detail required to compose a complex song is more than that of a stripped-down one. There is no sure-fire way to make basic music "interesting".

Besides, what rule says that simple music is harder to make interesting than complex music?

actually It's not one of my 'favourite' ever, it's just up there with many that I'm fond of, but I find any attack on it unjustified in this case, as mr system-j has pointed out best with his first reply in this thread. However the fact it's gone 'personal' is just an indication from me of your arguing style, that you seem to refuse to even consider being wrong or different and have to have the last say in everything, which is unnecessary
