Anyone else here like me?
I've been literally daily glued to Discogs. I'm searched through countless artists, labels, users, releases ... I am adding a ton of information that I can. And I've only been a member for 7 or so months.
I think I am addicted, until I submit all the stacks of CDs that I am sorting and add all info I am looking at. So much work to do!!!
Recently I came upon this user who had the most remarkable number of comments/reviews I have ever seen - 756!!!! http://www.discogs.com/user/scoundrel

I dunno if i'm as addicted as you are.. i'm not even registered there but have been using it ever since it came around. If i ever end up being unemployed for some time, i will surely register and add all my stuff there for the ones that aren't there yet. For the info part track lengths are a big deal to me because i'm an obsessed collector and need to know if the releases i'm after have the full length versions of tracks. If the lengths are missing, it annoys me alot because then i need to use other sourcesto confirm things.

Hehe, even though I go on Discogs almost every day, I dont spend more than an average of 30 minutes per day on it, hehe
Once I'll finish adding my releases to Discogs, I'll cool off. Its just right now I am in process of complete reorganizing of my music collection so that I can find any track in my collection with ease, since I joined Discogs. I've done about 12000 songs so far (all neatly typed up in Excel and fun to sort and search, including locations, length, artist, genre, etc. etc.). Long way to go though.
I like being organized. Already the dividents are paying off. I can easily compile whatever compilations I want and what I need to get and already have |

| best thing about discogs is looking at the user reviews/ratings of songs, seeing how many people have it and how many people want it. |

Oh ... for me its about discovering new albums and releses by browsing labels and users, as well as other releases some of the tracks I own appear at. Kinda like a spider web, sometimes I get really lost - but its fun! Best part of discogs in my opinion! Also this way I discover new artists to check out, and by looking but the number of that artist's releases and human traffic in them I can feel if I should dig into it ...
Your above points actually never affect my judgement, since often those things are opposite or inadequate of my opinion on it. :D |

i love discogs.
i seriously spend most of my day at work with TA, discogs, and a online record store site open...and i'm searching through discogs looking for releases and trying to find samples of them heheh... |

I had a mild addiction to it when they first expanded to include Hip Hop. Like any new user, was a bit of a rank hunter so I could get more releases in at a time, and the Hip Hop mods were super fast since they didn't have much of a queue in the beginning. I had good laughs when a few other newer cats at Discogs were wondering how the hell such a recent user could get a rank up there so quickly. I think I submitted something like 50+ cover images at first, too, since I had a scanner handy at the time.
Not as frequent of a user as I was these days, but I still submit the occasional item. There's a few releases I've yet to submit, but they are so rare, it'd probably give the mods nightmares. |
