Just remember...

The Mets payroll is still at 100$ Million. :p

The media keeps bringing up the Mets payroll and blah blah blah. But, the payroll, right now, is the same as it was last year. Add about 13$M for Hernandez/Molina, a few bullpen arms, and the bench... the payroll is at 113.

Then next year: Floyd's 6.5M, Glavine's 10M, and Matsui's 6.5M all come off the books.

B.J. Ryan for 47 million... no I wouldn't want the Yankees to spend 47 million on a setup man. I remember the Steve Karsay 4 yr, 32 million dollar deal. Dude was done after one. I read all these Yankee fans clamoring for signing guys like this. Then I think to myself... what about the last 5 years have I missed? You simply can't cover up all your holes with free agent signings or make trades with a severly depleted farm system. Yanks dynasty was about homegrown stars, some key trades done when the farm system was built up, and careful free agent deals.

Personally, I'm not saddened by the inactivity of the Yanks. At least they aren't trying to be reactionary to the Red Sux and Mets moves. Focus on your own needs, not what other teams do.

Now if they go into next year with Bubba Crosby and Tanyon Sturtze as key cogs... then I might be a little worried. But I don't mind waiting for "2nd tier guys" that don't cost 47 million for 5 years who could break down in 1 year.

And about relievers... I'd rather play the game with acquiring more cheaper guys instead of a couple really expensive ones. Ok for the closer but not middle guys. Think of Paul Quantrill for 3 million a year. Rather.. spend $1 million each on three guys. Some won't work.. some will. But your best guys won't be spent out by October from overuse.

Then I read Yanks trying to sign Kyle Farnsworth. 100 mph heater and a meat head.

Mike Myers too... stealing from the Red Sux. ka ka ka kill kill kill

And I'd take a team full of people from any country and any religion if they were good players.

I've read that some people in baseball are concerned about the growing dearth in black players. Kind of interesting when you compare to basketball and football.

Rays outfielder Joey Gathright and catcher Toby Hall are the primary topics of conversation, with the Marlins, Dodgers, Angels and Mets as possible trade partners. "We've had -- and we continue to have -- discussions with many teams about several of our players," Friedman said. "We're doing everything we can to win in 2006, but not to the detriment of 2007 and 2008." Read that to mean the Rays are seeking high-level, major-league-ready prospects in return for players like Gathright and Hall. Hall's name has been linked to the Mets. At the trade deadline last July, the Rays were interested in Mets pitcher Aaron Heilman (5-3, 3.17 ERA in 53 appearances). Another potential destination for the Rays' starting catcher is the Dodgers. Los Angeles has several minor-leaguers who interest Tampa Bay, including catchers Dioner Navarro and Russell Martin (.311 batting average, .430 on-base percentage for Double-A Jacksonville) and right-handed pitcher Chad Billingsley (13-6, 3.51 ERA for Jacksonville). Hall, who turned 30 on Oct. 21, is due to earn $3.5-4 million through arbitration.

Paul Lo Duca is set to make $6.25 million in 2006 and the team is dramatically trimming payroll. One option is to keep Lo Duca, a three-time All-Star, to assist the development of the pitchers. Finding quality catchers is very difficult throughout the league, increasing Lo Duca's value. But if the team does find a less expensive option, I'm sure they would explore trading Lo Duca. Another possibility is holding Lo Duca until the July trade deadline. The Marlins could see where they are in the standings, and if they aren't in contention, he could have prime trade value. That logic holds true if the club decides to keep Castillo and Pierre for now.

I am one of those concerned. I wish there were more black ball players. Which is a partial reason why I do not want Milledge traded at all costs. I love black baseball players.

With teams like the Marlins unloading...

Why aren't teams or the RAYS trying to shop Carl Crawford???

Cause of his contract???? It's not that big... I'd love to see Crawford in a big market...
