Waitressed for 5 years and yeah ppl are idiots...the best ones are the ones who think u don't see through their lies...like they eat everything except one bite and tell u its bad...please buddy!
I had these s one midnight and one the girls was telling to be nice to me and they were all like who gives a f*** she doesn't cook our food...why should i be...i just looked at the one guy with this evil smile and said " I don't cook it but i handle it too" there was silence and then he apologized...when i gave him his plate i again gave that evil smile and said "I made sure its extra special for u", haha i didn't do anything but it was fun watching him struggle through the first few bites and not finish it! |

working security and being friendly about your job doesn't work.... I worked for a bar for a year and bit and had a bottle swung at my head for asking a customer if they had a ride home, as they were leaving with car keys in plain sight in their hand (swaying from side to side).
I got spat on, punched, had one guy threaten to break my arm (funny given I train heavily in joint locks!), the cook got thrown over the counter when he came out to ask how the food was... apparently it didn't come quite fast enough, some don't understand that wings take 15 minutes regardless unless they were made in advance!
Escorted a guy out of the bar (ie walked him out talking to him) I then look out the window to see him accross the street pissing on the outside of my car! (the next weekend I saw him, he was removed a bit more forceably and with less cause)
I saw a guy leave $100 in the ATM, so I go get it and go to give it to him and let him know that he forgot his money... I then go to the server covering him and let her know to keep an eye on him to possibly cut him off (I mean what sober person leaves 100 bucks in an atm!) he then comes up and tries to start a fight with me for calling him out on being drunk... he was hammered and fell over to the ground as he swung at me.
Everytime I was nice about something I would get crapped on and taken advantage of. So after a while I more or less gave up the nice guy routine and traded for being a dick. I had to quit a little later bc I didn't enjoy that role either and would prefer to be nice. |

auch brutal, at the airport once some kids decided to make fun of what I do, (I wrapped luggage in plastic wrap), worst experience ever, once some drunk guy tried to get a free wrap, after I refused he threaten to hit me (not a good idea in the airport), later he got arrested for bothering some lady in a store lol, crazy people out there I tell ya, but I did meet many nice people aswell. Funniest one was meeting Pat Quin, I gave him a free wrap, and you'd think he'd tip ya, nope cheap ass he he he, lol, but seemed like a nice guy regardless. |

among my 7 years in the kithcen so far i've moonlighted in other various positions from banquet server, restaurant server, Host. to event and service bartender.
i've forgotten more stories than i remember
i've had people come in before the resto was open, complain about the food, and then try to tell me how to run it properly.
one nite @ copper creek back when it opened, we had i guess it was a stag party on wheels, cuz these guys came in ordered, and went back outside to the RV they arrived in, and came back with some strippers who they wanted to preform in the bistro whilethey were eating, then were harassing the waitresses, gettin drunker than they were and eventually got thrown out the front door by the first cook who was all of 5'6".
where i work now, the banquet staff is a group of geriatric zombies who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground and should all be fired, but can't b/c were a union house :whip: |

I guess all jobs that involve assisting customers just BLOW.
You really start realizing how rude people can be. All it takes is one to make ur entire day ty.
I work in a store helping customers all day long (and putting stock out). And I have realized one thing.. about 90% of costumers are freakin retarded. Maybe its not the same when it comes to the food industry, but im sure you girls/guys have to deal with big all day long as well.
Also one question, how much do you usually get as tip for lets say, around a $15-20 meal? |

I work in an Irish pub/restaurant in the theatre district near times square....ALL tourists:whip:
Yesterday I had this large group of southern ladies come in...they first proceeded to ignore me when I asked if they wanted anything to drink....they looked up from the menus and then looked right back down...I musta stood there for like 2 minutes before they barked out there order in their awful accent.
Then when they ordered their food, they were so snotty and EVERY one of them wanted things with this, and without that, and this on the side, and light on this and heavy on the other thing, and asking for stuff we didn't even have, then bitching because we didn't have brie or tofu or something that would never be in an irish pub.

They proceeded to run my ass around and complain all night, even tho I did everything exactly the way they wanted it. WHen I brought out the check with added gratuity (for large party) they complained about that, and asked why they should have to pay it.... I was like I am gonna punch these effin ladies so hard.
I mean, do people realize that servers and bartenders in America get paid around $3 an hour??? We count on our 18% tips fockers!! |

I heard that. Waitress is a very ungrateful job, my girlfriend is a waitress for one of this franchise restaurants, the she have to take ... oh man ... i don't know how she can handle it.

Working in the service or retail industry means dealing with difficult clients.
Unfortunately, MLB is right, it is part of the job. This is why we need bullies in school - to prepare us for the bullies (or just s) that we're inevitably going to face as adults. Personally, I think that if you're getting upset over someone who doesn't say hello and make small-talk, you're probably going to end up in tears when you get the REALLY bad patrons.
If you don't like it, quit. I'm sure the tips are nice but there are thousands of other jobs out there you can get that won't put you into contact with as many jerks. |

| ive been in the industry for 7 years. Ive been everything from a food runner to shooter girl to bartender, to supervising catering events....the stories i have are endless....my job now is to cover these things and take necessary actions before they even have a chance to come up.....so if they do come up, theres more heads on my ass including the client, and my managers...... Supervising an event at RTH for anywhere between 100 and 2300 people means up to 13 hr shifts of pure stress!!! |

i was a waiter for two years.
got tipped once, by this old lady infront of her husband, she was like 80 and she grabbed my ass, than i got some tongue action.
i'll remember you rosalita for life baby, for life!
you were once a crazy grandma, thanks for groping my balls at the end n puttin $5 in my pocket. i heard the funeral went well.
