No offence mate...but if you worked in the industry you'd understand.
The saying only goes so far, and not by any means meant to be taken that literally. Just my opinion. |

No offense mate, but for someone who claims to have worked in the industry for 8 years, you sound like you've got a pretty bad attitude about your job:

Very professional. Oooh, he snapped his fingers! Let's throw a drink in his eye!

And you still have the chutzpah to complain. For that kind of money you probably oughta suck it up... or find a different job.
I was going to keep my mouth shut but subtlety doesn't seem to be working in here. You're paid to serve customers - do your friggin' job, minus the attitude. If you're so unprofessional that you can't deal with someone WHO SNAPS THEIR FINGERS then you seriously ought to have gotten fired. Just hope that one of these customers doesn't complain to your manager, buddy! |

Wow, dude you take a lot of literally eh....and take it easy man, you're gonna pop a blood vessel. You really seem to care about this customer service thing don't you. I was obviously kidding about putting lime concentrate into peoples eyes that snap their fingers...
Its unprofessional yes but not to think about it, have you ever been insulted??? Guess not.
Its not like you just brush off a personal insult, its human to be offended.
I'm not sick of my job, I love working with people, and judging by the tips I make, people like being served by me. So you stick to your industry which is probably something involving a computer and a cubicle...and I'll stick to mine...Relax dude.
One thing about dealing with people that you have sadly missed, is that sometimes you have to let them form their own opinion based on experience .
And there is no attitude when I do my job, I'm acting, thats all Waiting/Bartending is. Ask anyone in the industry. |

| thats enough, let me pick a winner. i'm gona side with ninjahola, and thats not only based on 3 years waiting and 1 year of restaurant management. rather its based on not being so 'by the book' and 'proper' as you expect everything to be. get your head out of your ass diginut |

Well, the prevalence of this anti-customer and anti-"by the book" attitude definitely seems to explain the service I get from time to time.
Strange how many assumptions people are making about me and my job/experience. I don't see how that's relevant, but with respect to the cubicle comment, I have my own office and deal with many people from day to day.
It strikes me as genuinely strange that some people in the service industry believe that the best way to deal with a difficult customer is to do anything other than keep their cool and brush it off. That's not "the book" - that's reality. Read Dale Carnegie sometime - I can't pretend that apply his principles in every situation in my every day life, but for business (especially the service industry), I'd tend to take his advice and the advice of other successful businessmen over the rantings of jaded and bitter waiters and waitresses anyday. |

for the most part, you're right. as part of our job, we have to take a lot of ..and be cool with it. i've bitten my lip soo many times, and then come back being nicer then ever.."u get more bees with honey then vinegar". and in our industry we DO depend on tips, so it is in our best interest to be nice. for myself, i love establishing a good rapport with my members, whether it be for a 20 second drink, or a 6 hr dinner, and i think most people in the service industry do and probably are good at it (hence them still having jobs)
of course i have dealt with tables that are rude to me, or standoffish. i have never spat in food, of given them BAD service. sure i won't chat with them, or smile as often, or compliment her scarf, but i don't think those types of tables WANT that interference.
however, there are cases where the customer crosses the line. we have a job to do, and people that don't say hi..yeah.. we may not LIKE it, but its handleable. but the people that berate us..call us stupid, worthless (especially b/c of something out of our control)..people who grope us, make lewd comments, lie to get discounts...this is NOT part of the job..ANY JOB!
so if u bark out an order instead of answering my "hi how are you?" and are generally rude, i will take your order..i won't spit in your food, and i won't ignore your needs..(i WILL talk behind your back with the other servers)
but if cross that line..i will refuse to serve you. i don't need your tips that badly that i must put up with name-calling and u slapping my ass
and BTW..ppl remember, even though u only deal with the waitress or bartender, there is a LOT of reasons why your food is cold or late or even wrong. so be nice when u complain about something. s/he is bearing the brunt from both you, her manager who must know deal with it and the kitchen, who has to do extra work..and it could very well not have been his/her fault |

All of them.
The customer is always right.
If you haven't internalized that yet, you should not be in (or anywhere near) the service industry or the customer service business. |
There are some things that customers should never be able to get away with. Customers are always right within the means of respectable business attitude. If I came into your office and barked order at you in an disrespectful manner, you would tell me to leave your office and not help me at all.
The difference between your job and waitresses is that they sometimes have to deal with drunken men who think their don juans and can say whatever they want cause they paid for a BLT sandwhich and a few pitchers of Canadian. |

Yeah, we have to be professional, but the customer should also have some manners....I swear some of these people were raised in a barn!!:whip:
Its not that tough for mutual respect...how hard is it, for you, as the customer, to come in and just ASK for what you want? (and leave it at that?) Why add the attitude to it when we haven't even had the chance to do anything?
If we mess up, fine, do what you gotta do, but in the mean time, be polite, and we will do the same in return:rolleyes:  |
