Didn't CONSERVATIVE Barry Goldwater run against civil rights for blacks in the South. Isn't that one reason most African Americans are Democrats. |
African Americans began to vote democrat after the Civil War (when they got the right to vote). However, they were coerced into voting for the Democrats by the Whites in the area as the Democratic party was then a localized party which was chiefly concerned with Southern interests and autonomy from the Republican-dominated federal government.
The Democratic Party began to appeal to the working class at the time of the Depression (FDR, New Deal, advent of the Keynsian Welfare State)
Finally, the democrats began to directly appeal to African Americans in the Civil Rights period of the 1960's, this continues today.

Also, I don't know why you think that most blacks are democrats. There are some very well-known conservative blacks, such as Bill Cosby, Thomas Sowell, Booker T. Washington, Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, Walter Williams, Vernon Robinson... the list goes on. |
Clarence Thomas comes to mind, as an African, conservative member of the US supreme court.

may i remind you all that while your memories of the republican party seems to only go back to 1964 (barry goldwater) it was the 1864 republican presidential incumbent candidate (abraham lincoln) who was in the midst of fighting a war that would end slavery in the united states and give african americans their freedom....ya thats a really racist move. |
The move to end slavery was more of a political and strategic maneuver by Lincoln to weaken the capacity of the South (Civil War is on the horizon). |

That would make him a hippocrite just like Rush Limbaugh, and Barry Goldwater. How am I supposed to respect someone who says he's something that he's not. May'be he just listens to alot of Jay Z, pretends he's black, but knows nothing about Black History. |
He has an Afro (hair style). Chill out dude. |

| While after he called me an "idiot" and I certainly wouldn't ever defend Dicknut with some of his wharped views, I certainly do not agree with calling him racist slang. With the racist views IbizaGuy has, I think he has more in common with Dicknut than with most "Liberals" and us here at Tranceaddict. Most of us here don't support bigotry of any form, and judge people by their own unique qualities, or lack of. |

First, now what do you think Americans would think if Bush had no black people in his administration? Especially since people like David Duke, and Pat Buchanan ( now an independant because he was "too extreme" ) embarrassed the Republican Party. |
You're suggesting that the upper echelon of American government has Affirmative Action Policies? :stongue: That's rich.
Do you not realize that what you're implying is racist? By definition you're saying that these Conservative blacks COULDN'T possibly have gotten where they were by merit or talent, it had to be because of Affirmative Action or because Bush would "look bad" without having a few blacks. Ridiculous!
Anyway, you ignored the MANY other successful black conservatives that were mentioned who aren't in Bush's government or any government (Thomas Sowell, Booker T, Clarence Thomas, Bill Cosby, Walter Williams, and so on).
| quote: | | Colin Powell recently got screwed by the Bush Administration. They effectively shut him up because his opinions did not agree with Dick Cheneys on Iraq. Colin Powell was one of the few people in the current administration I have any respect for. |
So you're saying what exactly... that he got screwed because he was black? As if this has never happened to any white people in government?
| quote: | | As for the Bush administration. I live just next to Prince Georges County in Maryland which is Americas wealthiest mostly African American county with 1 million people & it voted 80% for John Kerry last election. More recently, a poll showed that only 3% of African Americans support the Bush Administration. Possible reasons why... |
So you're basing your assessment of the entire country based on one county in one state? Where did you get these statistics anyway? I saw lots of "polls" before the 2004 election that showed that 80% of *all* Americans supported Kerry, but it obviously wasn't correct (usually because the polls are cleverly worded to obfuscate the issue).
| quote: | | 1) Cutting taxes for the wealthy, while cutting free school lunch programs for poor innercity children shows Bushes real priorities. |
Cutting taxes for everyone. Get it through your head, lower taxes benefit EVERYONE. Even if taxes were lowered only for the "wealthy", which they weren't, this still benefits the "poor" because the "wealthy" people give them their best chance at a middle-class lifestyle by giving them decent paying jobs, which is far more likely to happen with lower taxes.
You want to talk about innercity schools? Let's talk about school vouchers, which would allow parents to take their children out of failing inner-city schools and put them in one where they can actually be safe and really learn something. It's the Democrats who have consistently and thoroughly refused to even consider this option - how's that for compassion?
| quote: | | 2) Poor families in the Bronx got help from Venezuelen President Chavez ( instead of Bush ) helping heat their homes this winter. |
Boo hoo. In most other countries, these "poor" people would be out on the streets living in abject poverty and dying in the winter. You're criticizing Bush for not using other people's money to help heat their homes, when these people have food and shelter and would be considered well-off in most places?
| quote: | | 3) Despite several days warnings, Bushes too late & inadequate evacuation of New Orleans left over a thousand poor, mostly black people a death in a watery swampy hell. People were even left in nursing homes to die. FEMA couldn't even provide a convoy of busses to evacuate inner city people with no transportation. The National Guard also shot alot of people in the chaos after, most of whom were black. Whether the people that were shot were really guilty of any crimes - we do not know. |
Despite several CENTURIES of warnings, they built a whole freaking town below sea level. Despite several day's warnings, the people in New Orleans REFUSED TO LEAVE. How was it up to Bush to evacuate them!? Bring in the army and forcibly remove them from their homes? Anyway, once the hurricane had begun, they could not possibly go in until it was over.
As for your conspiracy theories about the National Guard shooting innocent black people... puh-leeze. Even if people did get shot, it's hardly surprising that they were black seeing as how almost the entire city is black!
| quote: | | 4) Stories from New Orleans about people being raped in the super dome are being distributed by racist conservative media, and are mostly unproven. What is known is that many people died inside there from lack of basic health & sanitation. |
What the hell are you talking about?
| quote: | | 5) The federal government has done nothing to help make health care affordable to all poor families ( including African Americans ), while providing tax cuts for the rich. That shows their priorities. |
It is not the federal government's responsibility to make health care more easily affordable. Many if not most of these "poor" families could easily afford health insurance but simply don't budget for it. And if not, perhaps these "poor" families should not have had children and would not have had children if it weren't for the promise of higher welfare cheques. It's the priorities of these families that are mixed up, not the government's.
| quote: | | 6) If the Bush administration continues to ignore severe poverty within this country, which is worse than is seen in Canada, there will be riots in American cities like what we seen in France. On a recent call in show on C Span Radio most callers said "It was only a matter of time". |
I can't even believe you brought the France riots into this. Do you not understand that the riots in France were a result of radical Islamic extremists?
Do you even know what "severe poverty" is? You're talking about America here, not Paraguay! There is hardly any of that in the USA. "Severe poverty" implies no food and no shelter. Most people who are "poor" in the USA have easy access to food, shelter, transportation, entertainment, and health care. The amount of people who live below this "poverty line" is near zero.
And since when is it the "Bush Administration's" fault that this problem exists? Why didn't Clinton solve it with his tax-and-spend policies? Could it be that this is a problem that simply can't be solved by throwing money at it? Or do you believe that homeless in America magically disappeared during the Clinton administration because the media suddenly and magically stopped reporting on it as soon as a Democrat was in the white house?
Poverty does not cause crime. Poverty does not cause riots. That's a liberal idea that has been proven wrong and again and again. That rioting is far more likely to happen soon in Canada than in the U.S., because Canada is exactly like France with its ridiculous "multiculturalist" policies and constant shows of weakness to terrorist groups.
| quote: | | DigiNut: I am sure you & your views wouldn't be liked any more by African Americans in this country, than they are by IbizaGuy. |
First of all, we live in Canada, so there are no "African Americans" in this country except for the ones that come to visit from the USA. They are called blacks, and the "politically correct" term "African American" makes no sense because not every black person is from Africa. Tons are from Jamaica, and there are about 100 other countries across the globe that are predominantly black.
Secondly, don't presume to speak for all blacks. It's the blacks who are more and more often speaking out against airheaded liberal government policy. I'll bet you guys really hate it when those "disadvantaged" groups speak out against your misguided attempts to "help" them... |

| If poverty & marginalization didn't cause the inner city riots in the U.S. in the 1960s, and the more recent riots in France, then what the did? |
|

| EvilTree |
Because it takes helluva a lot of anger to go on riots, knowing that what you're doing is bad and you might get hurt, or even shot for it.
Often in riots, there are few who have real grievance and are 'hardcore' and willing to take the abuse. The rest are disturbers, people going along for the ride for 'fun'.
Same goes for recent events in Sydney and Paris. |

Due you have any ing clue? Have you ever seen an Inner City in the U.S. Try going to Detroit, may'be you'll see some ing reality. They will probably rob you, seeing some rich white dude trying to look like the Jackson 5 with an afro big enough to catch flies, bats & cicadas. Your probably some rich piece of , who lives a sheltered life, and thus couldn't give a if everyone else lives or dies. I guess that must be your CONSERVATIVE values. Help the rich, and screw the poor. If you love Bush & Rush Limbaugh so much, then move to the U.S., and try paying for your own ing health care. I'm sure the several hundred you pay every month for premiums is far more than you pay in extra taxes for it in Canada. If you don't believe there are poor people in the U.S. try going to alot of towns in the Midwest & Appalachia where the only factory in town closed due to outsourcing, and now everyone has no ing job, you wealthy, spoiled, fat, piece of . Alot of poor people also have children & can't afford to heat their home this winter, obviously you don't give a about them either.
The average 1 bedroom apartment in Baltimore / DC Metro region is $850/ month and rapidly increasing, and many people can't affort it, so you often end up with 4, 5, 6, people living in a single bedroom AP just so they don't end up homeless. Do you think that they give a about a tax cut on stocks and dividends, or lowering the tax rate of people in the highest income bracket.
You win, go spout your neo conservative, I'm rich everyone else Rush Limbaugh Canada bashing ( amazing considering you live there ) , I'd rather discuss politics with more intelligent people.
If you are such a ing genious, why don't you run for parliament and see if you win?
One more thing. You never did answer What is a liberal? If your going to say Tax & Spend then why can Clinton balance the budget & Bush can't. Cutting taxes is honerable, but not when in trillions of dollars debt, unless you don't give a , because it is your children who will have to pay it ALL off. |

I got those statistics from the Washington Post; the 3% one was a month ago; and the Pringe Georges County election results were posted in that paper along with other regional counties right after the Bush re-election. Bush did no better in DC. Also of all the latino people here I know ALL OF THEM hate George Bush. The republicans are loosing them, and they make up a huge part of the U.S. population. Even Virginia doesn't like Bush anymore. Right after Bush appeared with the Republican running for State Election, he lost! The Republicans now lost ALL the Virginia suburbs of DC, including Fairfax & Loundoun County, they even lost the entire military complex region in the SouthEast part of the state. Guess alot of military families won't vote Republican anymore, with a draft dodging president who likes to send other peoples kids to war, and prance around on an aircraft carrier wearing a flight suit declaring "the war is over, we won" when people were still dying.
If Bush actually fought in Vietnam instead of trying to evade it, he would have thought twice, and NOT HAVE manipulated intelligence, and insulted the entire world to get his war in Iraq. And guess what Bulgaria just pulled out now too. I do give the military alot of credit though, because they; not Bush are the only thing preventing a full scale civil war there now. As for Bush; he can't even give them the body armour they need.
So Dicknut! If you like Bush, Cheney, & Rush Limbaugh so much, do you think Canada should be fighting in Iraq?
If yes - why
If no - why
[FONT=Tahoma][COLOR=#99CCEE]Despite several CENTURIES of warnings, they built a whole freaking town below sea level. Despite several day's warnings, the people in New Orleans REFUSED TO LEAVE. I hope your million dollar mommy & daddy's ing house gets levelled by a tornado, and you die so I can blame it on you for living in Southern Ontario. Actually no I shouldn't say that just in case you have neighbours.
If George Bush spent the money to shore up the levies instead of Iraq, the flood would have been prevented. Did you know the president ignored engineer reports a year before warning what would happen? Appearently not, because you get all your news from Rush Limbaugh who cuts out pieces he doesn't like. All the flooding in New Orleans were caused by a few breaches - that was preventable, and now Bush is planning on spending billions more to fix the levies & rebuild New Orleans. If you think people there are stupid for building below sea level - tell that to your beloved stupid president & the residents of Venice, Italy also.
I should post your comment on the SouthEast Trance Addict Forum so they can see how much: Ignorant Neo Conservatives like you, the president, Dick Cheney, and Rush Limbaugh really care about them. And you can count on Louisiana not voting Republican in the next midterm & presidential election.
I'm leaving for vacation now, I'm just waiting for your stupid, one sided & ignorant responses next week.
Also by implying earlier on this thread that Adolf Hitler was a Liberal just proves how stupid you really are. Hitler even murdered handicap people, how the is that Liberal. Liberals help the less fortunate. And another thing, if you think Liberal & Communist are the same thing, then you need to go to back to high school ( which you probably never completed because you skipped out to listen to Rush Limbaugh, you dork ) & take history class. |

a) Yes, I have a clue.
b) Nothing you've assumed about me so far is correct. (how can you make such assumptions on somebody you've never even met, but simply read 3 or 4 posts from on an internet forum?)
c) Hurling personal insults does not make you any more right, it only serves to prove that you are ignorant and immature.
d) "Neo Conservatives", for the 10 millionth time, do not encompass the beliefs of Bush and his party nor the beliefs of myself or Conservatives in general. Neo-Conservatives are ex-liberals who've smartened up and moved from the hard left to the soft left - they are still left-wing.
e) The Nazi party was the Socialist party, so yes, Adolf Hitler *was* a Socialist. That isn't what I said, though; I said that Stalin and the USSR were Socialists. (did you perhaps confuse the Soviets with the Germans?)
f) Why did you have to respond to me in 3 separate posts? You're like the old guys on TV sitcoms who ramble on for 5 minutes, then suddenly start up again a half hour later with "and another thing!" Instead of just immediately posting whatever asinine thoughts pop into your head, why don't you take the time to think them through?
Why is it that the loony left always starts foaming at the mouth whenever somebody presents them with facts that don't support their personal beliefs? I never see those crazy "right-wing nuts" go ape whenever hippie liberals talk about welfare and health care.
*sigh* |
