Agree with you 100% RJ. I was going to post something like this a few weeks ago but I figured I would just get flamed for it.

so i guess the outcome so far is that there should be one thread, may it be sticky or not that should be used for downloads and such as. i personally kinda do agree with it and think it will work out good. this way all the material is avilable in one thread to everyone however if ppl downloading are still lazy to go through the thread and find what they like then thats too bad. life is not perfect and they should learn to accept it :) lolz.

also if sumone wants to post a comment in that thread about a certain set they can always quote the original post or simply state " RE: XX set posted by YY person " . alot of the sets yes are avilable on other download sites, p2p networks and or torrent sites but majority of us probably dont even know about them and when we do find out it always requires you to register. again personally i dont mind but alot of other TOTAs have bitched about registering on other sites just to download one or two sets.

another option could be is making something like a TOTA brother site just for downloads and what not, but i dont know how well that will go with Swamper and rest of the TA management. speaking of which Swamper where are you ? lolz whats your take on all of this ?

and lets not forget threads like this gentleman who are confukeled beyond beleief in my opinion :) ( no disrespect meant )

i agree with RJ.

i mean the reason for the Amateur DJ thread was just that. Too many of the same threads being created.

now it's direct downloads of stuff.

there is a music discussion forum on here too. maybe get feedback from the rest of TA as well.
Tordan
Why not prefix all those download threads with [DL] as Orko did? At least that way you'll know this thread is not for you. I listen to shoutcast stations all day but once in a while it's nice to download a set that another TA recommends. Some of them have been really good so far.

The only problem with that is that it's not localized to the region the DJ wishes to distribute their set.
I'd be interested in how many local TOTA DJs actually utilize that forum though.
The point (I believe) of a direct link in a particular regional TA section like TOTA would be to garner local support; which to me is valid.

While I don't disagree with RJ, I don't see this 'issue' being any different than the large signatures with direct links asking me to check out their internet broadcasts with every post they make (no offence RJ, I do like 2HP.ca ;)).
Really, what's the difference between one thread to a local set and multiple posts in multiple threads of a personal advertisement to a broadcast or a direct d/l?

I believe a TOTA DJ Set side forum nested within TOTA would be the best solution, much like the TOTA Events Forum, if it's starting to become that proliferate.

Not that we're a democracy or anything here, but hopefully the omnipotent, wise and all powerful Swamper will bless us with his opinion on this matter... :p :toothless

....what was the ritual again? Small children and chickens or something like that...?

Many people seem to be misunderstanding the situation here. It's not sets from local/amateur DJs that are the problem here. For example, a handful of the threads relating to this discussion that have been posted are:
  • Armin Van Buuren - 1999 12 18 - Live At Dance Department
  • Armin Van Buuren - A State Of Trance 228
  • Paul Oakenfold 1996 Essential Mix Part 2
  • Paul Oakenfold 1996 Essential Mix Part 1
  • Download: Armin van Buuren - A State Of Trance 2005 Year Mix (29-12-2005)
  • Paul Van Dyk - X-Mas Treat
  • M.I.K.E. - Rotationz Mix Session (17-12-2005)
  • Markus Schulz - Global DJ Broadcast 08.12.05
  • Ronski Speed - Euphonic Sessions on ETN.fm | 15.12.2005
  • Cosmic Gate - w00000t
  • VIDEO: Marco V Live at Sensation White 2005

And those are just on the first 2 pages of threads (7 or 8 on the first)! These sets are not from local DJs and certainly not from amateur DJs and 8 threads on the first page is simply getting WAY out of hand.

What's worse is that some of these threads aren't even sets - they're requests for sets or tracklistings. Honestly, who cares?

Amateur DJ sets should be posted in the amateur DJ thread, yes. Just like all of us producers who post our tracks in this forum - we post them in the one productions thread that isn't even stickied (ever heard of subscribing or using the search?). All of these other threads, though, should be getting posted in the Music Discussion forum. That's the place for them. If you really and truly only want to share them with your fellow TOTAs then do what the local producers and DJs have done and consolidate it into one thread, and it doesn't need to be stickied. And tracklist requests should go on the tracklist requests forum!

Not to take the wind out of your sails but I of course was talking about local artists ;)
I agree though, it could be just a matter of mods doing their job by the sounds of it...
TranceGrooves
the concern of having 7 or 8 threads on first page regarding downloads is something i dont understand. if ppl keep posting in them they will stay on the first page which shows ppl a) like what is posted and are talking about it b)want more of the same.

as i stated earlier if sumone is away from the boards for a few days and come back u will see alot of old threads get bumped including download threads. secondly as of right now theres extra download threads on first 2 pages cos certain sumone lolz wanted to make a point of it hahahah.

I understand that, and you're right about the local artists. The nature of the complaint here was for "general" sets and track lists which have no particular relevancy to this forum. As RJ pointed out, it's very easy to find those things elsewhere.

Then consolidate it into one thread - then everybody is happy. What is your problem with that? If people want more of the same they can go to torrent sites - if people want more of the same HERE then it's an indication of them being too lazy to do their own searching, and that is behaviour we should NOT be pandering to.

The 10 threads on the first page are only a tiny fraction of what's been posted over the past month or so.

Incorrect. The people wanting "to make a point of it" have not replied at all to those threads. Don't assume that there is some sort of conspiracy at work here to deprive people of their precious sets.
