Posting Live Sets for DL on TOTA - Comment/Feedback (pg. 7)

Big difference here though is:
a) you're not contributing to the 2 to 3 threads per day that consist of nothing but a download URL and a track-list.
b) You usually post some sort of commentary that accompanies the live set you're sharing.

Sharing of live sets and track lists is not the issue - starting a new thread to contribute NOTHING but a URL and a track list is the issue.
I'm interested in hearing what people have to say about a set, the history behind the set, a specific track. Some sort of significant review, feedback, history, story, information to go with the set totally validates the reason for a new thread - a URL + cut-n-paste track list doesn’t |

Just so we're clear - are you inferring that I'm elitist?
The strong majority of the longer-term members of TOTA go out of their way to NOT be elitist. They go out of their way to welcome new members, encourage open dialogue and share enjoyment of this thing we call “tunes”.
Further - most all TOTAs go above and beyond the normal expectations of being approachable, open, caring, supportive. Go to any party and you’ll see 5+ year members rocking it out with a 2-week member. |

I do, yes. People's feedback to the initial post usually consists of "awesome, thanks!" or something to that effect.
Maybe you call "awesome, thanks!" to be interesting feedback - most wouldn't.
Further - re-read that I've written in this thread: my point is that when the initial thread is created, rarely (if ever) is anything other the URL/track list posted.
In all fairness - maybe those that create the threads don't really have anything to say about the set, maybe they haven't listened to it, maybe they don't care about sharing what they think about it, maybe they don't have time to contribute anything more than a URL and cut-n-paste track list.
For my next post - I'll provide an example of what I would consider -interesting- commentary to accompany a URL / track list thread for a set: |

Comments: In 1999 - the year of trance - Paul Oakenfold went on an Essential Mix World Tour. Paul submitted 12 Essential Mixes that year from places such as Australia, Cuba, China, Argentina, Ibiza, Liverpool, and London. This mix ushered in the millennium and was recorded live from Home @ London on December 31, 1999.
Close your eyes and listen to what those right at the Greenwich meridian heard that special night (and take a moment to remember where you were that night).
This mix has one of my favorite tracks ever - "Jam & Spoon - Odyssey To Anyoona" released in 1992/1993. The track was later released with a vocal version called "Find Me". I first heard this track around 1994/95 and it still tops the list of my personal favorites. |

A post like the one above provides something of value (beyond a simple file) - which is IMO what is truely great about TOTA: people sharing opinions, thoughts, knowledge, ideas (not just bits and bytes).
Anybody can provide a URL. I'm simply proposing that if someone is going to start a new thread - give us something more than a URL. |
