Yep biggest problem with Global Gathering is this stupid Rock Dance blending. Not only will we get the wierd ravers but now we'll get the goth devil worshippers.
It sounds like they are affraid to lose money by an all-dance show and they had to book Rock acts as a instant profit type deal:rolleyes: :whip: |
Tommy Lee DJ set anyone?
:p |

"We're trying to shake it up and diversify things a little"
cough bull cough
please.. good concept, bad timing. I will not support GG as there was no reason to try to throw a competing massive the week before the only USA massive we got. Not only that, the djs that spin GG cant spin Ultra. This is bull and will help nobody.. as if our scene wasnt hurting enough now its going to be diluted even more. nice job, but youll enjoy the paycheck as you keep promoting on like every fukin forum in existence.. your a sellout plain and simple |

is that a rule
and our scene isnt hurting its pretty balanced with house music becoming more and more mainstream each year and Im talking about the US travel outside of it and EDM is one of the most popular genres around |

IM still going both, just dont bash one or the other. |
my apologies everybody...when i posted my comment i had completely forgotten about the rock stage... when i wrote the comment in my mind there was no rock stage cuz i completely forgot...stupid me!!! GG is a bad idea now thinking about it...especially the week before....GG should be done in like july...in between bang and UMF...my plans are now to attend UMF and see every dj that is playing at GG, during the WMC parties

The more I think about it... the more I don't get it.... What could possibly have been the point in having GG when it is? If anything, I guess I would have thought they would have tried to have it either a bit closer to WMC (like week of, you know, try to incorporate it into the festivites and make the week even bigger) or have it like as far away as possible from WMC week and try to establish something new... Having it when it is, it's just far enough away from WMC that a lot of people won't go down that early just for GG, but just close enough to force some people to make some hard decisions (especially us college kids ;)).
I just don't get it... :conf: |

Sellout? OK sure, if that's what you want to think. I've encountered that term before. You gotta try a lot harder to make me cry.
Instant profit? Sign me up for that festival!
Anyway, the festival is close to the dates of the traditional conference. It isn't the week before. Our festival is on the 18th, and the traditional conference begins on the 22nd. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday ...
That being said, several enterprising venues are scheduling parties early, starting on Monday the 20th of March. What this is in addition to a festival is a way of extending the days of parties and so forth during the month of March.
Think about it. The biggest complaint about the traditional days is that there's so much going on and not enough time to hit it all...now there will be time. It'll take a few seasons to sink in, but in the end expect to be coming to Miami for a bit longer than 4 days.
And yes, our artists are exclusive to our festival. So are Ultra's. You sign with them, you can't play for us, and vice versa. Wasn't our idea.
Like it or not, there are business concerns when this time of the year rolls around.
What amazes me at this point is we've supposedly got a community here that espouses being open-minded and accepting of new ideas. But some of these responses make me wonder. Oddly enough, the people I expected to be rabidly against this festival (the rock music kids) are totally into it and are even talking about (gasp! oh no!) checking out the other tents and stages while they are there. Yes, there will undoubtedly be a black-clad NIN fan dancing next to you. Good for him I say.
Though if you all really want me to I'll establish seperate bathroom facilities and water fountains for the rock music fans. Seperate but equal, right? |

no ones trying to make your cry, just stating the truth. You are a sellout and thats just the way it is.
I could care less about who is there and who isnt. Ive been in all the music scenes for a long time and could careless either way.
The fact is, as other people have stated, your riding the coat tails of the wmc.. trying to push for the extended week.. but in reality the wmc faithful arent going any earlier than they normally do. And dont count on having both festivals the same week for years in the future, it wont happen. |

| if GG were in july or august i would go. but going to WMC and UMF and GG is wayyyyyy too much money to spend....since i have to choose which one GG is the one thats out since it does involve rock music which i do not like at all...it will also be the first year here in Miami which means nothing is sure on how its gonna go...UMF has been here for years so i have more faith in that |

OK what is wrong with "selling out". Is it a cardinal sin to make money?
Ultra, WMC, Global Gathering, and all the other club events are being held in the United States, a (pretty much) free market economy. Don't kid yourselves, the Ultra crew walks away with a nice profit each year. The WMC organization, not as much, but there's a reason Bill Kelly drives a nicer car than I do. The clubs? Well, let's just say the successful club owners and promoters in this country don't want for much.
You're more than welcome to call me and my organization a sellout, but don't say that and then go to Ultra and the WMC the next week and blindly follow their mantras.
You know, I promised myself to just be an information conduit, but I guess I can't. |

| Honestly, I embrace GG idea, rock and electronica.. it's been done before else where in the states ( coachella ).. and GG have a mind in festivals with their experience. I just find it rediculous to see bashing to either Ultra or GG.. makes no sense to me. WHat I hate though its the politics thats taking place in other forums such as Cooljunkie where links for UMF ticket sales cant be posted, whereas here on TA, even with the noticeable promoting of UMF, no one its giving a hard ass to GG.. that I find unfair.. but be it. leave the BS and dedicate yourselfs ( the promoters ).. to bring the music, and leave all the political bull aside ( leave that for CoolJunkie. ) ;) |
