actually i think this is one of the reasons i prefer other dj's these days. someone like zabiela might have 2-3 sort of signature tunes he cans for a month of two, but he constantly is mixing it up with new material. i think as a general rule progressive dj's play a greater selection of tunes. i don't know exactly why that is, but it seems to be sorta true.
and of course mike, you can like tiesto all you want...i'm not going to bash at all because you at least know your ... |

please I welcome Tiesto fans who's been listening to him since the Forbidden Paradise to reflect upon his change.
Listening to arguments from people who just discovered trance and believes Tiesto is a god or something is like listening to right winged christians from Texas. |

i never really digged tiesto originally although still thought he was good but in my opinion he went on a slow downhill slope up until about the middle of 2005. Since then a couple of the sets i've got of his are extremely good altho i have not seen him live in this time.
i think being knocoked off the top-spot did dent his pride marginally so maybe he is putting more effort in. He is still an ego-tistical nob tho, Slinky (one of the clubs to give him his big break) have been trying to book him for a while but his demands are extortiante (sp?). |

| I used to like Tiesto (mostly around 2001/2002) but now he's gotten pretty bad. He does play some great tracks, and some of the tunes he played last year where some of my favorites (but it's not like I went to see him or heard all of his sets). His productions are 50/50. His older ones were great, but those were mostly when he collaborated with other people. I'm talking about back in the Kamaya Painters days. Ever since he got number 1, he's gone . He went on the biggest ego trip after that, and he got too big. Seems like it's happening to other DJs as well. It happens to anyone. Get too big, and your bound to fall. Can't stay up at number 1 forever. Most of the DJs I like now aren't even the ones that play lot of the music I am the most passionte about (quality melodic trance), but as far as DJ skills, they are much better. Talking about guys like James Zambiela and Sander K. |

I was thinking of pulling up tracklists and actually counting each track some of the trance jocks vs. prog jocks play to see who really has more diverse t/l's...but then I remembered I was lazy and that it would take alot of effort...but you wanna do it anyway? I'll help :wtf:

I agree with that
I think its a scene-wide trend/problem in the trance genre at present to actually feel the need to promote themselves everywhere they go.
Tijs only seems to change that attitude when returning to Netherlands for gigs... cos he knows the crowd there just simply won't tolerate hearing the Just Be Album again.
He's been burning the candle at both ends - cos on tour he can't not play those tunes, otherwise the crowd just react badly.
I didn't think it was possible, but in Budapest, where he was dropping some nice new (to my ears) Proggy stuff like Petersky & Booka Shade.. the 10'000 capacity arena was stationary... milling around and yawning. 10 minutes later Love Comes Again was dropped and you couldn't breathe for flailing arms and leaping lunatics.
When he gets that kind of reaction from his signature tunes, what choice does he have but to keep them lingering in the box the longest :(
While i'd agree the progressive DJs change their tunes on a faster rotation, that could also be something to do with the state of the scene as a whole... I mean - i'd rather hear the same good tracks for 6 months, than have him play the same tunes as the majority of ETN DJs. |

That's one of the reasons that I made the transition from Tiësto to Zabiela. For example on Tiësto's ISOS4 release tour, even after three months I'd look at the tracklist and see it filled with the same stuff. When Zabs was touring to promote Utilities, his sets even two months after it's release were totally different.
However, I can't help but agree with Michael in this case. While being popular certainly affects him and his ego, it also sort of forces him into a corner, which is a shame. |

the problem of being a "superstar" dj in the sense of a rockstar. When your mortage and stuff is resting on it it becomes very easy to take the money making option, i know i would. |
