Getting back on-topic, as a DJ for me he definitely peaked during 2001 and 2002, where with the death of epic (end of bandwagon jump # 2), he had to get out there and find a freaking sound that he DID like.
The SOLOs and Dutch Dimension 02-02-02...

You can't seriously mean that all of these tracks are cheese. He did a nice progressive warm-up here in this 6 h heineken music set. I know his mixing skills are very poor; but te atmosphere in his performances are great (seen him 5 times now)
And whereas armin still is a total sellout on major gigs, tiësto got back into the clubscene...
His tracklisting in 2005 was motsly poor... but recently he started playing with more variety and i really like that.
Tiësto should'nt be worshipped; nor bashed.
He's just an average dj; but he knows how to entertain a crowd! |

but if a bulk of audience wants to hear e that's been beaten to death, what's he to do? he can either say the audience and keep playing whatever he wants (like an armand van helden would do) or try to give a majority of the crowd what it wants -- however tedious it is and however exhausted of hearing it he (and the more knowledgeable clubbers) might be.
this year, ive seen tiesto drop tracks like criss source - hugs n' kisses or soopertrack and no one gives a so it's a catch-22: he can mess with his popularity and livelihood by pissing off the young gimps in attendance or he can try to strike a balance which is what he appears to have been doing in 2005. those who say that he should be a purist through-and-through lack perspective imo.
one of the larger questions that flows from a debate like this is, "is it possible to maintain quality when your popularity reaches the point of saturation?"
as a long time fan, the crowds have become the biggest turnoff for me, to the point of embarassment at my liking the same dj as them, despite our different reasons for doing so. |

| I thought his Revolution album seemed to have a lot more prog. than anything else he's done. Esp. that first disc. That being said, i really liked it. |

Well, I agree alot! But if it was me DJing...I cant see myself playing tracks I dont like, or that I'm bored of, just to please an audience. Maybe one or two hits every now and then if its a special request...but ffs, whats the point in DJing if you cant play the music you like?
I think the problem with him dropping Hugs N' Kisses, is that he'll drop it after Lawler has already canned it for 6 months, so if hes trying to appeal to us prog heads, we're gonna laugh, and the trance kiddies are gonna be going "wtf is this".
So hes dug himself into a hole.
And there are other prog house tunes just as good as Hugs N' Kisses that no one is playing, like I said before...ITS UP TO THE DJ TO FIND NEW MUSIC for us, the clubbers to hear. |

Tijs dropped it twice in June. (it clearly wasn't working for the teenyboppers)

Yeah, Lawler was playing it out around the same time, in fact the first time I heard it was when Steve was in LA June 25th. So I dunno who played it first :wtf:
P.S. I'm glad I didnt pay a dime to get into TiC LA...if I wanted to see a good circus show, I'd check out Cirque Du Soleil...lol |
