[review] Sasha & James Zabiela @ Avalon Hollywood + pics

Wow.
Avalon was decked out last night. Fundacion stuff everywhere, the return of the two side screens, the dj booth cameras feeding into the visuals, THREE (3) guys doing lighting at once, and the sound was tweaked just right.
Sasha threw down, right from the start. His opening set was good, but nothing too amazing. Still very good, very clean proffesionally delivered sound. Mixing was interesting, always clean. I wish his intro had been longer, and that he'd lay off the high pass filter/filter delay during every single build-up. It sounds great when used at the right time, but he over-does it. Theres other ways to make mixes or builds sound interesting besides that.
JAMES ZABIELA owned. This guy. I just dont get it.
He showed me a new side of himself, with some very nice longer mixes between tracks, with EFX work sprinkled around as usual. He was even laying down some more Sasha-esque darker proggy stuff. Excellent set flow, really good...A tad better than Sasha's IMO.
When both of them worked together it was just relentless. They killed me. It wouldnt stop. Huge build after huge build, sick bassline after sick bassline. Effects all over the damn place. Strobe lights/ LED Wall going off. Sasha was dancing about and pointing at Zabs while Z was scratching.
I'm not even gonna bother ID'ing tracks as well, I only knew about 4. Sasha's tracks were all extensively edited, I couldnt really figure out what was what.
Sick night, lots of TA's present...we were all over the dancefloor.
Looking forward to Sasha + Lee in April.

Ah Clovis, why did u start this thread knowing there was already another review thread? lol :rolleyes:
Why did I have to feel sick last nite out of ALL nites?????? :( :( :( :(
I was tired & didn't feel good last night to begin with, so I drank an entire red bull, which I normally don't do. BIG MISTAKE. It got me really nauseated. I really wanted to stay till the end, so I sat upstairs on the bleachers for a bit, in hopes to feel better & conserve my energy... but it didn't work.
I'm so bummed out. I don't have a valid review, because I was so sick, I couldn't appreciate the music as much. Instead, I had to concentrate on not getting pushed & shoved into all night. :nervous:
At 5am, I felt like the energy was sucked out of my body, and I just couldn't take it anymore. I wish I could've toughed it out and stayed longer, but there was just no way. :(
Sasha & James did play a few sick tracks though. I bet they got even better after I left. :sadgreen:
Oh well... next time! |

my friend randy had his buddy at avy put down "tyler +3" instead of me plus 3... and how ironic that our friend tyler stay home that night due to some unexpected circumstances.

we were on the hunt for ET last night. low and behold we found him and approaced this alien lifeform. he was groovin to the beats right next to me for the whole night! what a guy!
