It may be her body, but it is both of the parents baby.
How can you expect men to beleive that they are equally responsible for a child, if they do not have a say in whether or not it is born or not.
Theresa, you state over and over that if a man s a woman, and the woman wants to keep the child, he has to deal with that.
Why then, is it that if a woman s a man, and he wants to keep the child, she does not have to deal with this?
You say that a woman should not be forced to do anything she doesnt want to?
Then why should a man be forced to do anything he doesnt want to (IE pay for/take care of child)
Why should a woman not have to take responsibility for her actions (which was having sex with a man) and have the child if it is the mans wish? |

Can anyone outline for me:
1. What EXACTLY needs to be done to make this seem "fair"?
2. How will this be enforced?
3. How will you make it secure enough so as not to be breeched by dishonesty?
Just the plain and simple, straight up version of what you surmise would solve the problem. |

After the discussion we've had, I see two possible solutions:
1. Ban abortion.
I dont like it. Because of the serious nature of having a child, I think couples should have the option of terminating pregnancy, especially in life-threatening or the useful exemptions. I'd rather we be able to make the choice.
2. Allow men some form of control in deciding on the birth of the child.
This could be done in many ways. I believe North Carolina requires both parents to sign off on an abortion and this should be the case everywhere. As far as keeping the child, either parent should have the right to opt out of being financially responsible; this is essentially what adoption is. Opting out would entail paying a percentage less than those who did not opt out because you are saying the mother is having the child with your disaproval. What this idea would really requie is
2a/3. Reform Child support laws
Child support laws are outdated. Too often they decide in favor of women when there is no clear winner. Women can basically bill their past mates and many are forced into dead beat daddery because the women insist on expensive health care and other baby costs for a baby the man didnt agree to and can't afford. Many cases have been brought on women using child support money to support their own desires (parental clothing, bills, entertainment, etc.) and the only reason more are not brought is because divorce court costs alot of money. We need a more efficient ay of highlighting abusers of the system and making sure men are paying their fair share and that advantageous women are taking advantage of a skewed system.
EDIT: you could make it so you could reverse the process (opt in) but you can never opt out after a certain period. A parent who has opted out would be legally restrained, perhaps by limiting the time they can spend with their child.
A flawless system is not possible, and like I said earlier, roe v. wade was not meant to legalize abortion as a form of birth control, but it did. Any system is open to flaws and people will take advantage of them, just like a woman who aborted a baby that a man wanted to have would be doing. |

seriously when i hear some people that we should ban abortion or whatever it makes me jump ......imagine this case condom broke .....the girl takes the morning after pill but unfortunately for her she got pregnant ......should her keep the baby?:rolleyes: seriously i got friends who aborted an accident can happen and do u guys imagine if u were a 20 year girl or younger studying with no job living with your parents keeping a baby?be damn realistic if it happened to you girls or your gfs would u accept she keeps a baby?so it's cool to see u having a debate with arguments and all but seriously guys it's not that concrete .......i don't see why abortion is such a problem for you guys here in france people who only wish that abortion could be banned are the extremist catholics:rolleyes: seriously some of u seem to be like "well this girl got pregnant she should have been more careful too bad for her ....she gotta keep the baby" .....seriously think more and think if it happened to u would u ever think the same?
ps no i never have an abortion but im totally in favor of it though women who use it like 2 or 3 times shouldn't be allowed ....im against for excess |

There are tonnes of flaws with your logic, and this is mainly because there is no easy answer.
Banning abortion would bring about the problem Cranberry points out, and not banning it puts the option out there. It seems to me, that most of you men see it as "if it's there, there is no harm in using it". The fact of the matter is, there can be A LOT of repercussions of the use of abortion. Not to mention, a lot of people don't like, or agree with the idea of "playing God". It isn't necessarily always religious.
What exactly is "signing off an abortion"? Can you please elaborate on this? |
