But as I've said a million times to others about this exact topic. There's something more special about walking into a club with a CRATE full of records than a binder full of cd's.

Love the way you told that Robbie!! ^5

ING EH (and I cant even say I would know firsthand, but I believe it!!)

But i think that in the end the sound that comes from those speakers is all that matters. who really cares how it gets out.....as long as it sounds good and i am dancing......dont you think?

i play vinyl and cd........so im not putting down either

Yeah, I did't even factor that in. The price of digital is nice but...

But look at it this way:
Go to a record shop and spend a few hours then grabbing lunch afterward, and thinking about playing your tunes all the way home on the subway. That's an experience. Thats one way that your music comes to life. You can actually make a day out of it... I can't speak for anyone else, but when I head down to PDR/Release/Vintage its like living the music. Even though I'm no hero I get to feel like a superstar. For once...if never again :thepirate

Compare that to beatport:
Well, I wonder what this months new releases sound like. *click/preview/click/preview/download/burn/play* :o
Wahoo. Not much more of an experience than checking email.

Both have their advantages, which is why to me its all about balance :)

like u said, it's all about balance. Vinyl shopping is by far the best thing that a DJ could experience, besides playing them ofcourse :p. It's just that vinyl as a medium sounds more pleaseing specially in the EDM industry. Balance is the key though. MY rule of thumb is do whatever that sounds good. SOO if they can get CDs to sound as good as vinyl, i have no problem with that at all.

Dumonde are Final Scratch and use CD's as backup.

Final Scratch is my way to stay with vinyl and keep with the digital promo's.

I would never put down cd's. I think they're awesome. The fact that you can still use them like they're vinyls. As long as the dj... still does dj stuff. HANDS ON.. sratching, and actually trying to beatmatch it.. the art part of it. Otherwise what's the point? As for technology, it's already to the point where we don't even need a dj. Why not just program the tracks you want to hear in the order and have a program play them automatically... same thing. right? No. exactly!

Ableton Live FTW

there are some DJs out there that use either CDJs/vinyl and ableton simultaneously...at this moment Evil Nine comes to mind

with so many djs popping up every day, a dj has to do more than jsut beatmatch...this was only in due course of time that technology would pop up and take over to cut the time spent on beatmatching and instead allow the "dj" to say overlay samples, mix and match fx, and do on the spot remixing basically. the time is now. anyone who doesnt see the advantage of this technology needs to actually open their eyes.

about the programing part; well the human aspect comes into play when u have to judge the crowd and play accordingly...

and for the record, there isnt an algorithm yet for mixing breaks with ease...so even with digital applications, its a bitch to beatmatch breaks...

haha...I am the same way. Music samples online SUCK.ME.IN.
moreso than message boards! hehe

Is the magic of vinyl the feeling of coming away from the store with a lot less money for not very many tracks? is that this "magic" that everyone is talking about?
