There is a thread about this very same question(what is neo-trance), but it is in the german section of this forum and I cannot understand it, online translation doesnt clear up the messages at all, just the same hints regarding kaito and kompakt, perhaps it is just an empty buzzword. |

Thats not true...House is the biggest EDM. This is proved by walking into any club on any weekend night...90% are playing some sub-genre of House...be it Tribal, Latin, Prog, etc etc.

All I see is that you're much more of a noob then I ever was since your reading comprehension seriously sucks.
Zabiela doesn't play the type of Breaks I'm talking about. , there's always been a Breakbeat scene whether it's DJ Icey or Adam Freeland. The thing is, the last time Breakbeat was at the forefront of the EDM scene was in the mid to late 90s with the type of Big Beat records The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, and Crystal Method were making.
Trance is still the most popular genre on every major poll as seen by the amount of DJs who play trance in DJ Mag's Top 100. If you don't understand how important that list is to the big promoters you're a bigger noob gthen I thought.
I know House has been around for 2 and a half decades now and is older then Trance. I said that SOME types of House are fads.
I started to get into Dance music back in the late 80s. If that makes me a noob so be it :) |

The poll is a meaningless popularity contest. Means nothing. Clubs were packed before that poll existed and will be packed after it is long gone.
And in the top 20 from 2005 it was about equal with the DJs spinning House and Trance.

that is quite a one sided wager.
House has such a broad definition, the only common theme among them is the 4/4 beat and the similar tempos(which can deviate by quite alot). Trance is such a narrow category by comparison, with rules regarding structure and signiture sounds and gimmicks, of course trance will die first because people arent going to do the same things forever, and even if somebody comes up with an interesting variation on trance they will call it by a different name because trance is a bad word for marketing. If we wanted a more interesting wager we would need to change trance to be a category as broad as house.
so yeah, I wouldn't put any money on that at all, but it isn't like everything about trance will completely dissapear in 5 years, people will continue to recycle different elements of it for a very long time just like they do any other music.
Maybe a fairer wager would be:
4-4 music with live instrument feel and black+latin influences("house")
4-4 music with ethereal feel and reptitive synthetic patterns("trance")
if they are both defined equaly broadly then it gets harder to tell which will die first, they can both be repetitve drumming, that is the thing I think people will get sick of first, common among both genres. |

this whole thing with dj's bashin other dj's styles and is gettin stupid
even when like dj's diss dj sammy and
its just dumb and its a sterotype with dance music by sayin trance is pop dance and what not
djs get paid to travel the world and play infront of 1000's of fans a night and have a good time i just dont get it why they bother to diss other dj's
hey i like tiesto but i will admit he has gone down hill but for sven or pvd or whoever else to just talk trash about his music just is stupid heres a solution "DONT LISTEN TO IT" and dont play it

But that's exactly what I'm talking about when I say Trance is the most popular form of EDM where polls are concerned. As far as popularity contests go, Trance is still king by a longshot. It has the biggest global fanbase, and that means something to a lot of people.
We're not talking about what you may view as quality music, but rather about acknowledging Trance's popularity. |

err i don't fully agree, trance can be much more vague than that, it's just that a very specific kind of it is so popular that people don't get to consider the others |
