First time at a club was at Club Exit in NYC last summer. Their resident DJ Tony Draper was spinning hard trance

Ok, I've already laughed at myself for this, so nobody needs to post about how I'm such a geek. But:

I was just turned 18, never been to a club, but I'd been listening to trance on CD for a couple of years (this is almost 2 years ago now). I didn't have any friends who were into trance or who went to clubs or anything, I just started exploring electronic music after hearing The Chemical Brothers' Surrender, eventually I heard Tranceport 1 and got hooked on trance, etc. So I saw a poster for Max Graham and I decided that now that I was old enough to get into clubs I would go. Get this: I actually showed up at 8pm (cause the poster said "doors at 8") and there was NO ONE there of course, except this really spacey guy who said he was from Toronto asking where he could get some E. Max wandered through at about 8:30 talking to someone and I ran up to him and said something like "Hi, I'm really excited, this is my first time coming to see a DJ" and he laughed at me (but in a nice way).

So the club started filling up, people started dancing, I started feeling like less of a geek, but I was still feeling kind of out of place. But then I saw this girl from my drama class at University, who was older than me and had been clubbing for a long time, and I grabbed her and begged her to adopt me for the night, which she did, I had a great time and danced my ass off, and I remember freaking out when he dropped Underworld-Two Months Off.

So now I'm slightly older and wiser and busy dragging all my non-EDM-listening friends out to see my favorite DJs when they come through. But that's for another thread.

True...it at least gave me my laugh for the night! Everyone was bitchin about people dragging out old threads. At least if you are going to do it...drag your own old thread out. :p

Hmm first "club" experience must have been in the summer of '97 at "Kiss Club" in Taipei... I didn't know how to rave, but I remembered one of my buddies who was a candy raver and how she did her moves, so I just winged it on the dancefloor. Can't even remember the music.

First offical "EDM-club" experience was at Club Karma in Boston, MA, somewhere around May of 1999. My friend was really into EDM at the time, so she introduced me to Oakie and S&D's music. I remember the room being really dark and crowded, and then I saw this beautiful man with green glowsticks. :D He taught me a little about the art of glowsticking, and boy was he hot. :) Sasha and Digweed were spinning, but I didn't know who they were at the time. I kept dropping the glowsticks and getting on the floor to pick them up, but I was able to get the cutie's email address at the end of the night. :toocool:

My first clubbing experiencewas in Sydney where I live - Sublime.

wasn't a major event, but it consisted of some of our good Australian djs...

It was okay for a first...seeing Sydney hasn't got the best of clubs. But trance is trance!

I don't take E and all that, so very clear-minded on my first event.

What I wouldn't give though to go clubbing overseas though!!!

Well, it depends on what you mean by "club experience." Growing up in PR, I started going to clubs when I was 15. The first one was this place called Neons... tiny crowded room with a lot of sweat and cigarette smoke. They played pop dance music and there were a lot of bodies rubbing up against each other in the dark. I was terrified and spent most of the night standing around but by the end I was making out with some guy I'd never seen before in my life. No drugs, just some mojo flying around. I went to a lot of clubs like that, but I wouldn't count them as a real "club experience." The first time I had one of those was probably DJ Skribble. At least, that was the first time I went to a party with real music. I went alone like I often do and ended up meeting up with tons of people I knew... everywhere I turned there was a familiar face. And I danced my ass off with some dude who was a really good dancer. Even though I've seen better DJs since then, that was the last time that I ever saw so many of my friends in one place and met so many new people so I count it among the best of the parties I've been to. And no, no drugs.
