this album is worse than AvB's Shivers, and even then that's pretty bad. it's more or less the same experimental, nintendo-ish sounds that were on the awful Tracking Treasure Down but emphasized even more in the other tracks. in other words, i didn't like it.
don't buy this, and don't even download it  |

You can't compare AvB and G&D no way. Their sounds are completely different. G&D Artist Album is fine but the tracks are very slow and I was expecting a more invigorating and bustling album. |

I hate when people say things like this, saying it's an "apples to oranges" comparison and that there is no way they can be compared because they sound completely different. You can go with production quality, you can go with artistic creativity, and on both of these alone G&D obviously failed just like Shivers did. There's only so many times we can have vocal tracks and they be good, much less ones with Molly ing Bancroft, the new voice from the Netherworld. It's not a good album, plain and simple. And if you have an open mind and tend to like most genres, it's easy to compare the two. |

let go - i like the lyrics, but Im not sure itll be something I listen to for long anymore, tho I listened to the asot rip on repeat for ages.
eleven - starts off nicely for the first 20 secs, then goes bland.
enemy - not too bad, I dont really like male vocals too often tho.
dust in the wind - ok, but nothing great.
mass repeat - dont like it.
closer - i like this one, one of my favorite songs on the album.
not enough - not been able to listen to this all the way thru without turning it off.
new path - needs a vocal-less version and I may be able to listen to it.
sydney - great, the around you sample totally makes the song.
dangerous power - if it had no vocals it would be good, the vocals totally kill it.
tracking treasure down - Ive always liked this song, for the first 3 minutes anyway, then it goes a bit crappy. The rein de vries mashup/bootleg/re-edit/whatever is so much better cos it puts interest in the last 60% of the song.
Overall, an average album that couldve been a lot better, but with 2 or 3 very good songs on it. |

Some thoughts.
Gabriel & Dresden have always had a sound that reaches further than the norm when it comes to the "dance music norm". By this I mean they're like an indie artist with a commercial feel, but more commercial than indie.
It's almost as if at times they respectfully try to go overboard with their sound in bringing it to a more commercial market and then its as if they feel guilty that it's maybe a bit too commercial, so they try to bring it back. Then it becomes not commercial enough, and they try to push it back to a more commercial sound. They are fighting with a market full of enthusiasts and they are in an uphill battle trying to push both angles.
Gabriel and Dresden want club stormers and tracks you could listen to at home all in one track. Where they fall short in doing so is the fact that almost all dance floor stormers that start off as listenable tracks (Junke XL, Underworld, Way Out West, etc) almost sound so meticulously produced to the point where being a club anthem seems like an afterthought. Almost everything on this track sounds centered and dry. No unique sounds, no innovative technices, dry melodys, it's just all been done before. Not that there's nothing wrong with what's all been done before but even the Deja Vu experience here is entirely bleek.
On "Enemy", a chorus and melody that seems like a mash up between UNKLE's remix of Ian Brown's "Fear" and Prince's "Little Red Corvette" (not sure if it was intentional or not) side chained white noise and loops that become so monontonous kill what could've actually been interesting tracks. The Gabriel & Dresden version of Grace's "Not Over Yet", "Dust in the wind", sounds like something they never finished. It's a track thats meant to be one that builds up but in the end it falls flat on its face.
In the days where artists used to try and push the boundaries with each cd, with alot of the dance music releases it seems like fillers full of the norm is just fine. It shows no sign of growth from the begining of their journey, and nothing new for even enthusiasts who've never heard on of their releases. They sound bored with the style that they've been pushing for years. Don't be suprised if their next album is full of dj tools.
Come on guys, wheres the substance?
Note: "Let Go" is one of their best tracks ever and is also a breath of fresh air. But instead of trying to go beyond this and try to make something even better the cd slopes into what ends up souding like fillers. |

I've always been a big fan of G&D productions, for tthe most part.
But after hearing 4-5 tracks, only Sydney was ok, the rest were TERRIBLE.
I hope the rest of the album is good |
