meh i bet most of the bars wont care if people smoke.. like 80% of their clientele are smokers |

There's some pretty harsh penalties for the bars that don't enforce that law. |

They have a bunch of undercover inspectors. And the 4k fine is for individual smokers, and only on first warning, after that it goes up fast. The costs for establishments is even higher, at the risk of even being shut down completely. I don't think any bar owners are stupid enough to ignore it. |

| This will hurt business at first for sure.I think people will adapt, but it might take a long while.The majority of people in bars in Quebec smoke.This might be a very rough year for owners.As far as Tobacco companies losing business, there is a downfall to that.Less cigarettes sold = less taxes taken in by the gov .The government will be forced to find other ways to rob us.I would really like to hear what afterhours are planning to do.They cant let people go outside because of the security issues, so i wonder how they will adapt.Honestly if they dont offer us somewhere to smoke, i probably will just stop going.I can go without for a bit, but 8 hours i go into fits and will want to kill someone.So its smoking room or murder on the dancefloor.Stereo,Aria,Circus??come on let us know im curious.I would like to know what the deal is before actually going.As far as bars this just encourages us to have house parties and not spring for the 8$ beers.If enough people do this, the government will be forced to start taxing the air we breathe. |

comparing California and Quebec is like comparing Alaska and Hawaii.
Quebec has one of the highest populations of smokers per capita in north America.California wont even make the top 10.Of course people will adapt, but clubs and bars will suffer especially in winter until people get acustomed.This isnt fact, but every bar manager i seem to talk to thinks this way too.I understand you are a non smoker, but unless you live the filthy addiction tobacco brings, you have absolutly no idea how hard it is for a smoker not to smoke.(its not so bad normally, but add alcohol to the mix and a smoker will go nuts.)Hell, i know many non smokers who smoke only when having a drink.In alot of US states, establishments can have indoor smoking so long as no food is served in the area.If you smoke outside, you can also usually bring your drink.The interesting thing will be to see how many people here get tickets when they bring their beer outside when they go smoke.(You know its gonna happen).
