I think that the law is a municiple one is it not? If it were provincial, how come TO can have indoor smoking areas that don't even have a door (Guv) and Ottawa can not have anything at all inside.
if they do as TO does, it barely makes a difference. Glass walls, no door, good as it gets with this I think.
In BC when they first introduced the law it was re-examined after one year and they began letting nightclub and cabaret licenced bars to have smoking, but no where else.
I am not sure if it is different out there now tho. |

Yeah segregating smokers...good idea
I'd like to see what's gonna happen in 2 months or something, how effective it will be. For now I imagine they'll be forcing it...

If I cant compare Quebec and California, how about Ontario (Ottawa) and Quebec (Montreal).
In Ottawa not sure how long its been since people cant smoke anywhere. People there are dealing with it.
Why cant Montrealer's? Too ing lazy?! |

It really isn't that horrible guys. Kitchener passed this bi-law when I was about 22 or 23yo and Toronto has had it this way for a couple years now as well. Honestly, you get used to going outside to smoke and Erika you won't miss any beats. If the system is powerful enough in a club (which I am sure it will be) you will still hear what they are playing.
Personally I am glad there is no smoking everywhere. I don't come out of places smelling like an ashtray. Well that and it has been a whole month since I have even lit up a cigarette now so I really don't feel the need now :p
Even when I did smoke though, I enjoyed going outside for a smoke. It gave you some fresh air and cooled you down a little from the heat and it also caused you to smoke less if there was a really good DJ on. |

ive been to bars in alot of places man, and ive never seen as much smoking or drinking as here.California is full of health nuts.I remember reading an article(dont ask me for link i dont have it)saying that the 2 highest smoking cities per capita in north america were Montreal and St-John's(Newfoundland).Plus i cant be sure, but from meeting you i get the impression you dont hit up bars much.As an ex bartender i can tell you way more people(in general) smoke than dont in many bars.I'm not saying this law is all bad, just that there will be negative effects for clubs and bars.
I have no problem going outside to smoke, but are you saying smokers should stop going to afterhours because they cant be let out and back in?I've really been curious about this aspect.Like i stated before, i can go a few hours, but all night no way.Id be too grumpy to have a good time. |
