French Squad

No Guily. Quite suprising. No le sulk either, wasnt expect that **** to make it though. Same with pires, hes past it now and hasnt been great for arsenal.

its surprising that dhorashoo makes the squad and players like guily, pires, mexes and malbranque get overlooked. Anelka's a whiny bitch so i can see dommy's reasonining behind excluding him.

Oh and you can change your sig now from champions of europe to 3rd in England :)

not a bad squad but they're still missing something in my opinion... perhaps this time with Scolari they can make it happen but I don't see them doing much at the WC

Yeah we lack a decent striker (Pauleta is brilliant when at his best but hasn't shown much for a while), a decent left-back and a goalie that we can trust. Doesn't help that two key players at the Euro (Costinha and Maniche) haven't played much recently.

I still say we're beating our group without major problems then struggling in the knockout stage.

Woah, what a dream team. 2 unattached players (haha, Akwa was actually hyped as the new Eusébio when he was young at Benfica), 4 players from our 2nd division (Barreirense actually got relegated, and Portimonense was close!), 9 players from the mighty angolan championship.

If these guys didn't have a ton of will to win, and we didn't struggle even against ing Liechenstein, I'd guess a 6-0. They'll get thrashed for sure by Mexico and Iran anyway. :stongue:

I also bet there's going to be at least one sending off in Portugal-Angola.

Marchena and not Morientes? Only 3 forwards (yes, a lot of offensive midfielders), and Marchena is a red-card prone (and had a bad season).

Joaquín and not Navas, Albelda and not Oubiña. Crappy list.

Surprised Baraja & Vicente didn't make it, and the forward line looks a little bit thin (I know garcia can play there but i'd have t aken an extra man myself)

Who are Chimbonda and Ribery?

Ribery played in the U21's in the side that beat england in a playoff. Quite a bit of hype about him, esp with zizou being gone soon, but I didn't think he was the finished article yet when I saw him. was quite ineffectual against Bolton in UEFA cup too

As michael mentioned, Chimbonda is a right back who is pretty much a cafú type player, although a bit stronger defensively. He's requested a transfer & is being covetted by Spurs & Man Utd amongst others here. Joined from a club who went down in Ligue 1 - i think bastia, but having seen a fair bit of him, he's impressive, if inexperienced at this level

Very thin, that's why we need Morientes, and not another defender like Marchena.

3 strikers only in the squad is fine if you're planning to play 4-2-3-1 all tournament. we're doing the same and i think it's more than enough (but have none as good as Morientes!).

Vicente is missing indeed, i find him an excellent player but to be fair that squad as it is, is one of the most solid i've seen so far. Only think 4 defensive midfielders is a bit of an overkill, even if they're all very good (Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Albelda, Senna).

If they manage to keep their head straight and overcome whatever always happens to Spain in the big tournaments they could be one of the biggest opponents to Brazil. Don't overlook Spain.
