wine tastings are fun, i work them when our restaurant has them.
anyone here like champagne? i love it. veuve cliquot is definitely my favourite, the yellow label non vintage. i think that beats out dom perignon. krug is a really nice champagne as well. as long as it is a brut then i am happy. veuve makes a great brut rose. moet i do not care for at all, the white star or the brut. |
Are you a wine rep?
I know absolutely nothing of the bubbly, nor ports & sherry. These are a must! |

no, i am not a wine rep. i work in a restaurant that has received 2 extraordinarys from the NY times, so it is a pretty upscale place, and b/c of that we have a nice wine list. i have worked there for 7 years on and off in addition to my other job, so i have had to learn about wine, b/c it is part of my job.
a few times a year, we host wine tasting dinners. i work them and listen to what the reps have to say and we get to try each one. so b/c of that i have learned a lot, but i am not an expert. |

Amarone Valpolicella
Spanish Tempranillo
So I had got bottles of these wines and had them along with my pasta.
Both of them are amongst the better wineswines I've had. I prefered the Tempranillo over Amarone but its excellent too.
Dude, the Tempranillo is so in expensive though - t...
The Amarone wasnt that cheap either..Tasted great though, both of them..
Thank you :) |

the reason i hate red wine is because of its dry taste |
all wines, both red and white, have variations that span between fruity and dry.
My favorite red, Georges DuBoeuf Beaujolais Villages 2002 is right in the middle, and goes great with pasta.
Beaulieu Vineyards Pinot Noir, and Regaleali are a couple of my other top reds, although I prefer drier whites for the most part, especially if I'm out, as I don't want my mouth red and teeth gray after a few glasses.
Le Faux Frog Chardonnay is a fruity white, but the pear taste is very remarkable.
Your best bet is to find a big liquor store around you, and see if they have a wine tasting event, which many do every couple months. Many times, you can go there and sample over 20 different wines, and gauge what you want based on those samples.
Try to be picky with your first few samples though, as it's difficult to cleanse your pallet and get a good sense of what the wines will actaully do for your taste buds after samples a good amount of them. |

Just got myself a Nero d'Avola (or Calabrese) from the Sicily region.. Probably opening it tonight. |
It's not really to my liking. Bit too woody, and I just don't like the smell of it.
Well, on the hunt for another good Montepulciano then, next time. |
