i like most of the things that kubrick has put out, with the exception of this film...dunno whether it was because kubrick passed away before completing the necessary edits/cuts (quite a few of the explicit scenes were chopped up, tho i dunno if that woulda made much of a difference), or cause it was just difficult subject material...anyway, IMO it just seemed like a film that was tryin to be controversial and present taboo matter for the sake of inciting a reaction from the audience...ive watched it a few times and it just seems heavy handed and morose and I just couldnt connect with any character, much less the situation that they find themselves in...basically it just didnt stick with me like Dr. Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket or Clockwork Orange did

well actually kubrick died five days after he handed in the complete product to warner bros. they did however digitally alter parts during ritual party scene a bit to avoid an nc17 rating, but nothing far beyond that. though i guess from what you said, this would only even lower your opinion of the film :(

Kubrick's films are an acquired taste, esp. for me, undoubtedly GREAT filmmaking and imagination but albeit somewhat cold, almost 'scientific', and it requires repeated viewing i dont think they are for the average movie viewer. VERY thoughtprovoking tho, and i loved his works for that

hmm how about A.I., the collaboration between Spielberg and Kubrick, any thoughts on that? hm but oh we should really get back to the subject of the thread at hand, shouldnt we?

so i went to see Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest yesterday and i gotta say im pretty disappointed... the story was boring, nothing major happens, and i was wondering when it was gonna end

third one should be good tho

trailer looks pretty sweet overall, this is def the biggest budget aronofsky's had to work with and it looks it...:eyes: the cinematography and art shown in the preview look gorgeous...i think along with scanner darkly this is probably gonna be the most unique mainstream release of the year..cant wait to see it

btw, anyone have a recommendation btwn scanner darkly, superman and pirates? haent seen any and plan on seein something this weekend..
