No I won't, but that's exaclty what I'm saying - (a) I don't have to watch it if I don't want to, and (b) I am the one who will decide how I'm going to use and react to the information I'm receiving.

All I'm saying is that just to turn away from it all by assuming it's all negative and makes me generally sad, worried, or become a crazy shopper/consumer is just not something I agree with and it seems like I'm just hiding from it cause I can't handle it. (it sounds more harsh than how i really view it though)

Just for the record I'm not saying that all news is great, accurate, or relevant :) I certainly don't agree with much of it, but I just don't think that isolating yourself from it is the right thing to do.

I suppose you'll be one of the first people to blame the gov't, CSIS, the RCMP, etc. when they "failed to protect us" if/when something DOES happen

kids were/are used ALL the time in terrorist activities.

the IRA enjoyed having a kid go knock at a door of an intended victim...youths are recruited as suicide bombers in the middle east...and foreign militaries employ minors as well.

why is this so hard to fathom as possible here?

+1

We can no longer, as a country, sit in our own little corner of the world and watch these things happen to others and pretend it'll never happen to us; it is and I guarantee this won't be the last of these type of arrests (hopefully).

Let's not be naive about this people...
Allegory
All of the suspects were either born in Canada or were long-time residents. Luc Portelance, the assistant director of operations for the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) called it a case of "home-grown terrorism."

This is an excerpt from CBC.

The suspects are so young!

I have quite the contempt for broadcast news. But it doesn't stop me from reading many points of view; I find that reading only brings temporary emotion about where as when i watch TV I feel like throwing a blunt object at the wall.

PEOPLE! STOP watching CNN! You're rotting your brain with that crap. Anything is better...okay, maybe not C-Span.

Yeah I found those points quite naive as well. These 17 arrested have been watched videod and recorded for the last several months. There's no political issue here. I applaud CSIS and the RCMP for potentially saving our lives.

This whole event has really made me reconsider multiculturalism. Multiculturalism creates a seperation among different cultutres within society. you have these different groups that have thier own identity and really dont want to be canadian or integrate fully into an alternate society. There can never be true unity in a multicultural canada. there is only these segragated groups with thier own views and ideals. If you dont like canada dont ing live here. we let people into our country and they foster these beliefs amongst themselves? that is a total disrespect all they care about is thier own kind and dont want to integrate with others like i said before. sorry but we are clearly seeing that multiculturalism isnt working. im going to move out of canada and go back to my parents homeland. ill fit in there more then canada even though i was born here.

All I can say to that is that your own views of Islam do not reflect the views of many other Muslims with whom I have spoken.

Dude, you must hang out with the same Muslims who are being accused of terrorism for their violent/ignorant tendencies OR you've done something to piss off the Muslims you've spoken to.

So please don't retort with "that is not a true Muslim/Christian/Whatever". The world is NOT full of secular human beings, it is in fact full of those wishing to cut their own piece of the pie, and stick to what they know. Its just human nature.

LOL "that is DEFINITELY not a true Muslim/Christian/Whatever."

Furthermore, you think I'm secular?!?! FYI, there are more PRACTICING Muslims like me than of ANY OTHER CREDO in Toronto, so maybe if you got out of your little corner of this city, you'd find them. Get involved in various student groups and clubs and you'll find them.

We are not "cutting our own piece of the pie"; we are the MAJORITY.
