So... if that's true about the FL meter, would it be best to mix it at a low volume (in this case FL's 0db), and then maximize the track volume in a program such as Soundforge (or master if you're very talented)?
And yes, I know that you should keep it as a .wav file until the final render (In this case, SOundforge's render). |
Really, all you have to do is use your ears.
Confused by FL's meters? Add an external plugin that works on a 0=clip scale, such as inspector. Or add a fruity spectroman to your master channel.
When you're ready to master, L3 to the master channel; just because fruity's meters aren't your usual fare doesn't mean it isn't still operating with the same sounds and sound levels as any other environment, and VST/VSTi recognize this. |

AUTOMATION!
i want a separate playlist for automation, and visible patterns for the knob-tweekage. IHATE hunting down by right clicking->edit events. WAY too time consuming
who agrees? |
hahaha! what a sig! *saved*
I use reason btw but am thinking of rewiring in to cubase to be able to use some VSTi's for infinity+ more sounds. |

In fairness you would have to do this for every meter in FL and you would have to turn fruity's visualisation off, meaning that you would have to open an inspector on every channel to be able to see and compare whats going on. I admit, yea its doable for accuracy but the CPU load, the annoyance of opening each channel separately and not being able to compare mixer channels side by side in the mixer window - it would create more problems than it solves doing that.
Also not everyone here can afford L3 or Waves effects plugins. I know I cant. On a side note, every waves FX plugin I have heard including Q10, the linear phase EQs and the doubler plugin all sounded like in my opinion so I probably wouldnt buy them, even if their meters used 0 dB as the clipping point :( |

The name 'fruity' sounds like a package for kids. I think this is Image-Lines biggest misake as im sure its turned away many a producer. Ive been using Fruity for 6 years, it gets better all the time. Main thing is, its realy easy to lay down track quickly. Also its very fast in assigning my midi keyboard sliders and knobs. Last time i checked in cubase, this process too twice as long. Automation is easily usable, although i think FL could take a slice out of Cubase or Logics book on that subject.
Alot of people dont believe I write tunes on FL, they expect the sound im making to come from something else. Mainted with the rite vst plugins, samples and audio editing software, you can achieve anything!
Funny though, i still really think im missing out when it comes to logic 7. All my fav producers use Logic in some form or another. |

Aye; I just use fruity's meters, I'm just accustomed to it.
But if, theoretically, I was posed with the problem, I would stick just one instance of inspecter in the master channel, and mute all on the channels that I don't want to see the cumulative amplitudes for.
But yeah, I'm looking at FL right now, and I'm looking at the mixer, and each channel is set to "100% volume" but they go up to 125% volume.
I think if you were to start your track with them all at 125%, you would be overcoming the 6 dB ceiling it gives you.
Not practical, but yeah. :) |

That's funny because I tried this a couple of times and the renders look and sound the same volume to me..

Bottom line, I love FL Studio, and I have heard some very good material outputted by more able producers (and I suprised myself sometimes). I like the interface, the piano roll, the VST support, and the flexible simplicity of the mixer.
Therefore, I'm going to continue using this sequencer, and if my ears eventually detect a raw problem between it and more "expensive" software (and it's not simply my incompetence), then I shall modify my user-ship. |

I'm bumping this thread, mainly because Maor Levi mentioned a list of producers who use FL Studio and I was curious as to what this was. :)
So, anybody know what "pros" use FL? |

Well to name a few besides Maor Levi (Maor Levi should be enough proof in itself that FL is capable of pro-quality)...
Alex Arestegui
Icone
Thomas Datt
Soliquid
The group I'm in :toocool: hehe
Plus many more I cant remember at this present time. |
