dude, :wtf: seriously. You're 20, that sounds more like you're 14, or maybe 8.
You need to move out.
lol at the part after the quote too.
as for the movie, unforunately i bought it before seeing it and i just thought it was weird. I also bought Requiem for a Dream, which a lot of people like, i thought it was depressing and pretty dull.
^ Memento was good though. |

the whole "sloppy blowjob, gotta go" analogy earlier in the thread is right. Ya it's a "what if" movie, but the presentation is just horrible and the final relevation makes you just shrug your shoulders and go "ok so what." I saw it again to see if i could pick anything up after having seen the ending, but found nothing to raise my spirits.
i didn't really understand what this film has to do with parallel universes and time travel other than Darko reading about it. I mean, if he had read about being trapped in a fairy tale, would the movie have been about fairy tales? The whole "what if" is just a letdown. He gets a girlfriend, catches a child pornographer and shoots a guy in a bunny suit. How about preventing the end of the world?
Was everything the bunny told Donnie just supposed to be about not being able to prevent the inevitable in the structure of a timeline? That the house had to be burned down because the bunny was a time traveler and it NEEDED to happen because it was a part of an unchangeable timeline where no one has a choice but to follow? |

| I think Donnie Darko is beyond a lot of peoples intelligence and understanding, and more often than not, people are frightened by or are found to dislike what they cannot make sense of. |

im pretty bright, but im not sure even i can make it any simpler (than ive already attempted) for unfortunte people like yourself to understand . if you honestly cant understand the underlying plot, dont blame the movie.
im not saying everyone should love it, but i havent seen a credible negative assessment yet beyond people simply not understanding it. go see arnie in something. it must really hurt him being a policitian for the time being :(
you dont have to be an elitist to think it does a lot of things well. the humour in it is top notch at the very least. |

If you actually take the effort to pay attention to the film, it really isn't all that difficult to get.
I suggest watching the directors cut. It helps a little bit in understanding what is actually going on.
You mainstream kiddies can't handle anything that takes a little bit of brain power to keep up with. You need things spoon fed to you, thus why you enjoy REAL movies like 2 fast 2 furious, and other B.S. of the like. |

No really, I'm as picky with my music and lit, just as film. Granted, I wasn't in a sober state of mind upon viewing, but I remember thinking maybe I wasn't full of enough angst to actually appreciate the message? |

It has nothing to do with angst on any level.
It is about parallel universes, time travel, string theory. Nothing of it has anything to do with some emo kid... it is much deeper than that. |

| For curiousity sake, can those of you who think Donnie Darko "sucked" please tell me of any other good "thought-provoking" films. Something that actually takes some thinking to understand that you feel was of good quality. |
